Kimberly Odekoven: DIY Insert Covers

One of my most favorite things to do each and every month is to make 3 different covers, front and back for the Standard Dori with 2 additional ones for my wallet and master home insert. When I look at this paper from the Daisy Fields Planner Kit as it is, there is just something about this dark blue that draws me in so I reflect that with the blue dotted paper, also from the Daisy Fields Planner Kit. Then with the blue washi from the Daisy Fields Planner Add-On Kit, it also ties that blue throughout.

Now for the details which, I think, really make a difference between wow and wowza.  I used a tiny trimming scrap from when I cut down the paper and flanked it on either side of the blue. I wanted to tie in the floral on the washi with the daisy die cut and connect all three layers on top with the weekend banner. Then I used the ClickArt Pen, again from the Daisy Fields Planner Add-On Kit, to add some faux stitching around that blue star, which gives it that homespun feel and a little bit of subtle texture.  Now we get the back side. Yeah!

Since I wrapped that blue paper around the back I already had a jumping-off point. I used another scrap of paper trimmed for proportion’s sake to visually anchor the back side.  The two big sunflowers are fussy cut from the kit paper scraps as well and placed in the top and bottom corners. To break up the orange stripe just a little bit, I added one last bouquet to the mix.

I found these bubble stickers in the Classified kit to be a base for one of these little quotes. When creating decorative clusters, it helps to have an element that grounds the other bits, like this bubble sticker.
