Tips and Tricks

Odessa here with another favourite tip of mine – make a sketch! I’ve been doing more notebook layouts lately and even if I don’t imply it, I always make myself a sketch first. It could be just some roughed out lines on a sticky note but for the layout I am sharing with you I did it up properly.

Here is the sketch I started with. I knew that I wanted to use the mist and a patterned paper background and the rest went from there. Once I had the sketch done, the layout was so easy to put together!

This was a simple layout made even simpler with a sketch. The big thing to figure out when you sit down to plan out a layout is what’s the most important thing to you on the page. That thing is always a great place to start. For me, it was the mist sprayed on the splatter template from one of the Memory Keeping kits this month. It ended up being pretty subtle on the page but was still a great starting point.

The mist spot was a perfect place to put a picture. With a couple of embellishments, that zone of the page was done. Then I had to figure out how to balance the photo. I love the dimensional stickers and enamel dots this month so I decided an embellishment cluster on the opposite side of the page for some balance was perfect.

A little journalling, some cute embellishments and some colour to balance out some of the warmer tones on the opposite side of the page and my cluster was done! Easy peasy. If you’re interested, I made a video of my process working on this page.
