Fun with Pocket Cards: Doodles and Dashes II

Hello, friends!

Did you know that pocket cards can be utilized for more than just pocket-page scrapbooking? Their size and scale, along with their sentiments and illustrations make them great for small-scale memory keeping and planners, too! Today, we’re sharing some inspired ways to utilize pocket cards from the Doodles & Dashes II Modern Memory-Keeping Kit for a variety of purposes.

Jil Larson: Pocket-Page Scrapbooking

The pocket cards in the Doodles & Dashes II Modern Memory-Keeping Kit are all so good! Here is the first of the several pocket-page spreads I hope to make with this kit. In the bottom right pocket, I documented the little things I am enjoying so far this fall. It was fun to have the chance to use the wonderful rub-ons on this plain gray and white card. It also gives the eyes a resting place in my otherwise detailed spread.

In the upper right pocket, I made a pocket from yellow-orange vellum stitched with orange thread. The pocket gave me a place to include some of the tumbling leaves patterned paper from the kit. I placed the pocket on the watercolor card and then layered on top a phrase sticker, a puffy sticker, and some more of the paper cut into a flower shape with a die. I love creating layered collages of this sort! I stamped on the photo of my dog to reinforce the little story I tell about her in my typed journaling.

For the photos in the middle of the spread, I include more of the delightful puffy leaves, along with a couple of round stickers and glitter dots. The photo of my watercolor sketchbook page on the bottom documents the painting challenge I’ve been doing this month, which I journal about on a label anchored by a puffy acorn. That card includes another label stamped with the date of my watercolor sketch.

I was so glad to see a roller date stamp included in the Doodles & Dashes Classified: Memory Keeping Edition Kit—these are a go-to tool for me. I hope you have some fun this month with the beautiful pocket cards from the November kit!

Natasha Pytlik: Pocket Cards as Pockets in Memory Planner

For this memory planning layout in my Daisy Planner, I wanted to double up on the pocket love fun. “Currently” style layouts are one of my favorite ways to document my every day and it’s something that no matter what season of life I’m in I can document in this format..even the things that seem mundane or even silly. But I tell you, I ALWAYS love going back to read what was my favorite snack at that time, a podcast obsession, what was growing in the garden, etc in the past.

For my pockets in my un-pocket page style memory planning layout, I used the pocket cards from the Doodles & Dashes II Modern Memory-Keeping Kit which I cut a small slit at the top of the journal card to serve as the placeholder for the tags where I wrote down my “currently” journaling. Next, I carefully adhered them down to my Daisy Planner pages with just a narrow strip of adhesive tape to not block the currently tag that would be coming in next. These tags that I used for the currently cards might look familiar to you as I wanted to be able to show how you can use your kit packaging as a pocket insert.

I used trimmed-down pages from my Doodles & Dashes II Simple Dori to back the tag to provide a clean slate for my currently lists.

To give the layout extra character, I embellished the pockets with an assortment of stickers and die cuts. I like how each pocket has its own vibe but it all flows really nicely.

Rachel Newman: Planner Setups with Pocket Cards

Pocket cards are the perfect addition to your planner setups! Here is a look at 3 ways to use the pocket cards from the Doodles & Dashes II Modern Memory-Keeping Kit and the Doodles & Dashes Kit II Planner Add-On Kit to get your planners ready for November.

1. Dividers and Covers

Grab the pocket cards (especially the month-specific ones) and use them to embellish your dividers and planner covers. Here, I have the Daisy Weeks Booklet wrapped in paper from the Doodles & Dashes II Classified: Memory Keeping Edition Kit and finished with a matted pocket card. The size and scale of the card make it a perfect addition to this planner cover. For the Doodles & Dashes II Weeks Daisy Dori I place the pocket card on top of a stamped background that I created with the stamp set from the Doodles & Dashes II Modern Memory-Keeping Kit.

The 3×4 and 4×6 cards work great for larger planner setups like a Happy Planner or the Daisy Planner. For this divider, I love the ability to showcase the gorgeous background paper and create a mat for the pocket card with paper scraps.

2. Dashboards

While I use most of the horizontal weekly pages in the Daisy Planner for morning page journaling, I am left each month with a horizontal spread that I love finding creative ways to use. This month I made a monthly dashboard to capture a few of my current favorites. I love that I could add other inserts in this section, too.

#3. Decoration in your planners.

Pocket cards were meant to be altered! Given their small scale and size, they are perfect for decorating your planner spreads. So trim them down and add them like you would a decorative box or quote stickers in your planners!
