The Designer’s challenge this month is all about journaling around the edge. I often journal around the edges of photos or other elements on my layouts. Sometimes also around the outer edge of my cardstock/background. My challenge for you is to tell a story on your layout and to place that journaling around the edge of something… around the photo, around one of the papers, around the outer edge…
Suzanna created this wonderful layout for this challenge. I really love when the text is also playing the role of a design element like this. This is what Suzanna said about her layout:
“This was a tough challenge for me! I typically don’t include a lot of journaling on my layouts as it is visually disturbing to me often times. I had to find a way to incorporate the journaling into my design. In this instance, I wanted something dark around the 2016 pocket card, rather than my go to fine line pen, I journaled. Thanks for making me step out of my comfort zone Anna!”
Doris also played along! These are her words about her layout:
“I enjoyed the challenge of writing around the edges. I find that sometimes less is more with journaling. Instead of rambling about an event which is entirely evident in the photos, I narrowed my focus down to exactly what I wanted to say about my boy.”
I love how Doris used the black machine stitching together with the journaling!
My own layout is about my son and one of his little cousins. My journaling isn’t only telling the story about their first meeting this Christmas, but it also works as a frame around central elements of the design.
I hope you feel inspired to play along and to let your journaling frame something. Perhaps writing in a different colour than black? Or journaling using paint and a brush? Or writing around circular elements? Or triangular? I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Please upload your work by adding a link here or to the challenge post on the message board. I would love to see you play along! You have until Tuesday 2nd February 11 pm EST. One winner will recieve a $10 coupon to spend in the Daisy store.
