Designers Challenge: Stitching on Steroids with Video Link

Hey there Daisies! It’s Kelly here with my first post and challenge. One of the things that I love to do is to stitch on my layouts, whether it be by hand or with my sewing machine. My challenge for you today is to stitch on your projects, and if you are a pro at stitching on your pages, then my challenge to you is to kick it up a notch! There are so many ways that you can add stitching to your layouts. I have stitched through  titles, die cuts, stitched shapes, altered the stitches, changed thread colors…the list goes on and on.

Suz made a card and stitched in between the two homes to further reinforce the saying “from our home to yours”. This little touch added so much detail to the card.

Marie traced around the chipboard title, stitched it, and then layered it over top of the stitched title. This is such a great technique, and I just love the way that it turned out on her layout. She also stitched around the edges of the hearts which brought just the perfect touch of whimsy to this page.

Sarah really kicked it up several notches using the cut files and a mixture of machine and hand stitching. Not only did she stitch through the words with a variety of stitches, she outlined a large coffee cup with a simple backstitch. If you are a Gilmore Girls fan then you’ll understand just how perfectly she documented this show.

Moonlee added some stitching detail to her double page spread. There’s a mixture of both hand stitching machine stitching but I think that my favorite thing that she did was to stitch around the triangles without thread in the needle! The interest that it gives to the page in incredible and I’m going to have to try this at some point in the future.loved-this1

I have a few examples of stitching on my layouts this month. On the first layout, Taxi Mom, I stitched around the die cut in messy circles. There are days when I feel like I’m running around in circles shuffling my kids to their activities. I thought that the messy stitching would work well with my journaling and reflect the feeling of running around in circles.

On this layout, my title needed grounding, or as I like to say it needed a shelf to rest on. I stitched underneath the title using different stitches in gold thread for a touch of whimsy.

I have a process video up if you’d like to take a closer peek at how I made the layout Taxi Mom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QMEb5EFfgA&lc=z133sra4lzu5utrkk225f53igm34u3d2x

I hope that this challenge inspires you to stitch on your cards and layouts! Be sure to leave a comment on this post or on the corresponding Facebook post with your completed project. One lucky winner will be picked and will receive $10 to spend in the Daisy store. Good luck!
