Hey, everyone, Jil and Robin here to share our food stories and prompt yours. Robin’s is hilarious because she’s sharing just how wretched food can be at charity balls. This page is part of a cool mini book she’s putting together about food adventures.
Paper piecing one side of the traveler’s notebook page to make a tuxedo–what a brilliant idea! Robin used papers and die cuts from the kit, part of a cut file, two of the Farmer’s Market washi tapes, and a black sequin secured with a French knot. Robin describes her wish to “highlight the formality of these events in a fun way,” adding “perhaps you can relate to the food menus we have endured.” I know I can! And the tux combined with the menu parody are pure fun. The detail shot allows you to read the full story.
My own story is a simple one about enjoying homemade pancakes with my mom during blueberry season here in Michigan. We think of moms making pancakes for their kids, so I loved documenting how this gets turned around as our parents get older, and we fix the pancakes for them. She saw a recipe that looked simple and good, and I took it from there. Bonding over food–there’s nothing quite like it!
I worked with a simple grid design here, but I wanted to get some of the homespun quilt paper onto the page because my mom is a quilter and because it adds a cozy vibe. I hand-wrote my journaling to give the spread a personal touch. The “homemade goodness” pocket was just perfect for the plate photo, and I carried the yellow throughout the spread with the chipboard, die cut (“breakfast”), and the stamped kitchen utensils. Since I’m a color-lover, I needed to get the blueberry color in there with some additional stamping. The red milk cap was perfect to bring in the third primary and continue the old-fashioned, cozy feeling of the page.
The background paper in the Farmer’s Market TN is soft and cozy like pjs or my mom’s robe. And in these details, you can see how sweet that quilt paper is. It’s always fun to mix a bold pattern with a soft one. I must say, the blueberry smudges and irregular edges assure us that these are indeed homemade pancakes!
Here’s a closer look at that transparent, adhesive-backed pocket. These are included in the Cocoa Daisy kits from time to time, and I always love them. That classic bulldog clip is from the travelers notebook memory keeping kit, too.
