Today I am on the blog sharing the start of a new project I am embarking on with the South Beach kits. It’s an album documenting my dad’s 80th birthday week. The entire family got together on a cruise to the Bahamas to celebrate! I am sharing my opening pages with you today focusing on the peaches, yellows, and greens in the kit.
There are so many beautiful pocket cards to choose from, I had a tough time deciding. The colors in my photos are all over the place because of the nature of our surroundings and the multitude of family members grouped together in many of them. When this happens, you can create consistency in a trip layout or album by choosing a specific kit or color scheme for your documentation. Let’s have a look at my opening page which is a 3×8 protector with two 3×4 pockets. Both sides of the pockets are shown.
I chose some of the new travel stamps including the destination label for the brief description of this mini album. I printed the trip title and dates then added the destination stamp and continued stamping on scrap paper until I ran out of ink on the stamp. Then I fussy cut all of the stamping to build some height behind the top layer with the trip info. To finish off the pocket card, I used the trail from the airplane stamp and little cruise ship from an old stamp set in my stash. I paired my description card with many pocket cards but finally decided on the “let’s get lost” card for the colors and simplicity.
Next, I chose to focus on the yellow umbrella in the background of this photo of my dad with all his kids when choosing the paper, pocket card and ephemera for this page.
Here is how the opening pocket cards look in my album in front of the photo. I like that a bit of paper in the journaling pocket under the large photo is peeping out behind the two 3×4 pocket cards.
And finally, here is a look at all the cards together with my photo and journaling. You can see the photo is full of many colors and its not the best photo. However, this is a very special time and occasion and so what is important to me is telling the story and giving it to my dad as a little reminder of his special week.
If you find yourself in a similar situation with photos from a special event that are a huge mix of colors and not the best angles, try choosing a specific color scheme or a whimsical kit for your documentation to bring consistency to your layout or album. What’s truly important here is to tell your story because it will be a treasure now and for many generations to come!
