Today I wanted to share a few ways you can use the stencil from the Lemon Grove Traveler’s Notebook kit. I created various samples with Ranger Texture Paste, Distress Oxide Ink and Distress Oxide Sprays. Now let’s dive in and look at my first design using the stencil.
During my girl’s only birthday week in 2012, we stayed at the Rodanthe Inn house on Cape Hatteras, NC, which is decorated to match the movie set for Nights In Rodanthe. The Lemon Grove kit is absolutely perfect for this trip because the kit designs reflect the inside of the house. This is the reason I chose to use the stencil and texture paste, colored with Ranger distress ink in Peeled Paint for a layout documenting information about the house.
I created several page variations with the stencil and texture paste. There is a video that walks through them here. The version used in this design was chosen for the darker mixture of the paste and ink. I wanted to be able to see the design through the journaling.
Blue is my favorite color and so using green was a real stretch for me, but I really like the way these colors contrast, yet pull together in the result!
On my second layout using the stencil I decided I wanted to try my oxide sprays. Here are some of my samples.
I really love this look! It’s fairly easy to create and I will be posting a video this weekend showing how I created this effect.
The blue sparkly word phrases are one of my favorite items in the Lemon Grove kits. I decided to use one of them with the photo of all the girls on this trip. And those little charms are just darling! I had to include one in this design, which I backed with some stray threads from the planner kit tassel clip. The oxide sprays chosen are reflective of the colors in the kitchen which is behind the camera.
On the left side of my layout I used a sample I made with texture paste and a different stencil to hold my photo. After printing the photo I trimmed it to look like a polaroid. Because I wanted the stencil design with oxide sprays to be the star of this spread, I chose to keep embellishments at a minimum. The photo of us is in black and white allows it to nestle in amongst the bold colors.
I hope I have given you some ideas on how to use the stencil in the Lemon Grove Traveler’s Notebook kit. Please let me know if you have any questions and I look forward to seeing what you create with your kit!
