Project Life Card / Laminated Pocket Tutorial

Project Life Card / Laminated Pocket Tutorial

Hello Everyone!

If you were like me, as soon as you as saw the December 2018 Simon project life card that was double sided (with that ADORABLE Simon bunny tail on the back) , you fell in love immediately! I knew I wanted a way to display Simon (front and back) in my planner, BUT I also like to collect the Simon cards and keep them intact; I didn’t want to punch holes in to the card or cut or tape it up. I looked at several dashboards on the market available for purchase to fit my personal size ring binder but none of them had “project life cards” dimensions. Naturally, I decided to make my own!

Here’s a peek at the finished product! I love that this is something I’ll be able to use month after month; I’ll simply slip out the old card from the pocket and replace it with the current month’s card! If you’re interested in how to make your own, keep reading! (If you’re more of a video type of learner, here’s a link to the youtube tutorial: https://youtu.be/UjhQ3Hs-hHo

Here’s a step by step breakdown of the process:

Start with an 8.5 x 11 lamination pouch ( I use scotch brand)

  • Use your choice of cutting tool (scissors, rotary, silhouette, etc) to cut the following pieces
  • One large pocket (closed edge to the left) at 6.7 X 3.7 inches (this is for personal size rings and will be the finished size of the entire dashboard)
  • Cut 2 pieces at 2.145 X 3.25 inches (these two pieces make the top pocket)
  • Cut 2 pieces at 4.25 X 3.25 inches (these two pieces make the bottom pocket to hold a project life card)
  • Layer the top pocket pieces together, placing the outside of the lamination sheet together facing in
  • Place this layered piece into the main, large piece of lamination, lining up the top edges
  • Layer the bottom pocket pieces together, placing the outside of the lamination sheet together facing in
  • Place this layered piece in to the main, large piece of lamination, leaving space between the top pocket you already have in so that the lamination has room to seal
  • Run all of this through the lamination machine
  • Cut the very edge of the top off with a straight edge, opening the top pocket for use
  • Use a craft knife and straight edge to slice along the top of the bottom pocket, making it open for use

Here’s a visual of the 8.5 X 11 inch lamination sheet I have marked with cut lines and sizes for each piece

Now you have a pocket dash to enjoy month after month! Here’s a look at another one I made and have filled with Cocoa Daisy decorations! I hope you enjoyed the tutorial! Have fun crafting!
