Are You “Inclined” to Sketch?

Hi Memory Keeping fans! Suzanna here today to share with you our monthly sketch and loads of inspiration from some of the Cocoa Daisy Memory Keeping Design team! This month’s sketch is a bit different in that, instead of the lovely right angles we all love, there are some inclined stripes. Check it out!

Three lovely angled stripes with two square photos. Or a photo and a journal card? Or one horizontal photo? The skies the limit I’m inclined to say and that’s the beauty of sketches, don’t you think!

I’ll start you off with my layout! I went large! I mean, go large or go home! If you are already stepping out of your comfort zone, you might as well take a big giant leap out, don’t you think?!  I shifted the diagonal’s over to the left in order to work with the picture that I had. Because I used the large photo, I used a journal card in place of the squares and just stuck with the one thus creating a bit more balance. The lighter, ecru based elements are nicely balance with the dark shadows from the trees in the large photo. This kit is rather heavy on the ecru and lighter shades, it really needed some dark elements, such as the black washi and that bright blue for balance.

Here is how this layout came together. I struggled at first. I had a 4×3 photo and was heading down the 8.5×11 letter sized layout path. I just couldn’t get the proportions to work for me. I’m glad it didn’t work out because this large photo layout really makes me happy!

Next up is Traci! This is what Traci has to say about her layout; I added a lot to it but I think you can tell it’s the same sketch! You can watch her process video here; https://youtu.be/io5ILPTJATc

Simone too used mixed media for her layout. I love that her stripes ARE the mixed media and the rest of the layout are bits and pieces from the kit. Do you see the stamps from the kit that she included?! Here is what Simone has to say about her project; I had a hard time with the diagonal lines, I knew if I wanted to make them work, they needed to almost blend into the background. So I tried some new mists and love how it turned out. I used several layers behind my photos and added some texture with the stamps from the kit. Then I added the title using an alpha stamp set. I finished by adding three embellishment clusters. Simone also has a process video that you can find here; https://youtu.be/PSJlq0AceXY

Lisa has a really great take on the sketch too! And she too uses the stamps! I love the paint brush lines as the diagonals! They definitely add some fun movement to the page! The large white mats around the photos and the white diagonals really pop the layout.

Last but not least, Wendy! Wendy is definitely our most liberal sketch interpreter. Here is what Wendy has to say; I stuck with the two block area for the photos and the strips, but the diagonals didn’t quite make it on my page (I like everything 90′ angles, lol). You can see my process here, https://youtu.be/urKqgPOiGtM

Thanks for stopping in today! I hope you are “inclined” to use the sketch with your Cocoa Daisy kits and give it a go! Be sure to link Cocoa Daisy if you play along!
