Hello Daisies! Suzanna here today to share with you 6 tips and tricks that I used while creating this layout with my July Cocoa Daisy kits! I LOVE creating with all the fun mix of patterned papers and embellishments. It’s always amazing how each of us creative COMPLETELY different projects with the exact same elements. That we rarely overlap in how we use elements is fascinating to me.
Tips and tricks to consider as you are creating;
- Conserve paper – especially those Cocoa Daisy exclusives!
- Packaging often makes a great photo layer.
- Pocket cards or “wordy” elements are not set in stone; cut them, amend them.
- Weed innards of die cuts with an Xacto knife for a cleaner look.
- Don’t have the right color embellishments? Stamp them!
- No foam adhesive and want some dimension on the page? Use craft foam!
For the background of this layout, I used the two pieces of the same exclusive patterned paper; the front and the back. However in order to preserve these exclusive papers that I know I will not be able to find again, I just used the 1.5 inch edge of the darker piece and adhered it to the back of the cloudy piece.
You will often see in my layouts (and process videos) that I will cut out words from pocket cards or amend titles like I did with the above die cut. This layout is about my daughter’s swim friends who are like family. Many of these girls have grown up swimming together and when you are sharing rooms while on team travel, it’s just like family. I used the Evalicious stickers to insert “swim” into the title.
The first of the two layers behind this photo is the Fancy Pants ephemera pack packaging. I wanted a little something poking out from behind the picture but the kit didn’t have quite the right shade I wanted. Nor did I want to cut into a whole sheet of paper. The packaging was perfect!
Last but not least for my tips; don’t have the embellishment colors you want from a kit? Use the stamps and you are sure to be able to create some that work for you! There isn’t a whole lot of red and navy in this kit (or, there wasn’t by the time I got around to this layout) so I just stamped the stitched border in both red and navy to nestle embellies on/around.
It’s easier to see these tips and tricks in action. Below is my process video of this layout coming together.
Thanks for stopping in today! If you are so inclined, I would love to have you subscribe to my YouTube channel! I try and post 2-3 times a week with at least 3, usually 4 Cocoa Daisy, process videos a month.
Enjoy the tips and tricks!
