Hello Daisies! It’s Kelly here and today and I have my first layout to share with you that I created with the fun April kit. The theme of this month’s kit is Real Life, and I challenged myself to use the themed die cuts in a different way than intended. The word home in our family also means home plate. My daughter is a softball player, and I thought that it would be fun to create a page using the domestic Simple Stories papers and die cuts.
I was amazed at how versatile the phrase stickers are from Pinkfresh Studios. I’m sure that they didn’t have softball in mind when they created this sticker, but it sure is perfect for this page. The little hearts were punched out of a branding strip.
I fussy cut the word Home from a cut apart sheet and used it as part of my title. The yellow house completes a visual triangle between the ribbon, the title, and the die cut, as well as draws your eye to the photo.
I also chose to paint on the cardstock to add a bit more interest to the page. The color is perfect for a ball field, plus it pulls out the colors in photo as well as the papers. If you have been wanting to try a bit of mixed media, but don’t know where to start, adding a bit of paint is an easy way to start.
Here’s a link to my process video where you can see how the layout came together. Thanks so much and I hope that you have a great day!
