QOTD 08-16-11 - weight

Are you often on a diet? Or do you have any special strategy to maintain a healthy weight?

I had never even tried to loose weight until last May when I joined Weight Watchers Online. Diets and stuff just wasn't for me. But I have a bunch of friends who have been very enthusiastic about Weight Watchers and I suddenly decided to give it a try. It worked SO well. I was so surprised. BUT... then Tuva came along and I've been eating way too much for so long now. I'm almost back to where I started last year. This week I joined Weight Watchers again. It feels different this time. Knowing how well I did last year is both encouraging and kind of scary. :)

I put on a lot of weight after I had Sam, and I used Weight Watchers to get rid of it. I didn't go to the weigh-in meetings, I just used all the information at home that a friend gave me. I lost over 2.5 stone (I did actually go to weigh-ins to get the last half stone off, although I resented paying for it!). Ever since then, I've used the WW points-counting system to lose a few pounds here and there when it's started to creep up.

I would love to lose some more (I'm not too big but I'm no string-bean either :D), but I don't seem to have the will-power to stick to the WW system for more than a couple of weeks at a time now. I love food too much!

I never have been a dieter and now that I have extra weight I really don't know what to do with myself. I would love to take about twenty pounds off, but it just seems so daunting. I really don't watch what I eat and I have quit exercising almost altogether. I want to blame it on this past year and the amount of time spent on the computer doing grad work and the illness and death of my mother in law...but in reality I have let myself get lazy. I really need to do something more and commit to whatever I decide to do.

I've always been "calorie restrictive" as my nutrionist calls it. And actually just today I went for the test that told me how many calories I need just to sit around all day. Which was 2017, to find out I was not even eating 1200 calories most days. Which is why she thinks I am having so much difficulty loosing weight. She increase my daily needs to 1400 and we are going to see how that goes. I did finally loose a few pounds this month and a jeans size. Which was nice to go into GAP and put a pair of jeans on that actually fit and were a size smaller.

Oh, the dreaded weight topic...
I have struggled with my weight my entire life. It's like a rollercoaster for me, up and down. Right now I need to lose 30lbs to be where I want to be. I just love food and cooking so darn much that I always feel a little deprived while dieting. I do believe WW works, it's worked for me in the past. It is truly a mind game that you have to play with yourself, an hourly decision you have to make...it's exhausting. ::)

I'm one that goes up and down regularly as well. :( I will be really good about exercising and eating well and then when I reach a decent weight I'll think I can just quit all those good habits and then I end up back where I was before...it's a vicious cycle! I am totally a foodie too which makes it hard! >:D

I hate this whole weight thing.

I never ever struggled with my weight until I had my coil removed 4.5yrs ago and since then I put on 12lb. It just doesn't go.
My problem is my height. Being only 4ft10 it's alot more noticeable.
I would feel happy with shifting 6lb as I know I can fit nicely into ladies clothing then. But once I go under than like how I used to be I can no longer fit womens clothing but I'm too curvey still for the age 10/11yrs that I need to wear.
We don't get the amount of size options like in the states.
It has improved over here. I remember when I size 6 (US 2) first started over here.

I think a big problem of mine is making time to eat.
I'm terrible at going all day and forgetting. I just grab a banana or yoghurt when I get wobbly legs later in the afternoon. I just don't think about it.
But funny that when we were on Florida last year I lost about 5lb. I wonder if it was the regular eating????

I totally get this. With my kind of physical work, age, height and weight my allowable calorie intake is about 2400 calories. Which seems ridiculous. I was told by my friend who is a nutritionist that I need to eat more, more often and I would actually lose weight. ARGH. It just seems so difficult and confusing. Why does it have to be so complicated? I eat when I am hungry and eat good food. I don't diet, never have but turning 40 definitely changed some things. Over the last five years I have put on about 15 pounds which I would like to lose. I don't think I am fat but I liked my self perfectly 15lbs. thinner.

I never had to worry about my weight until I was about 35, since then it's been a struggle to maintain a healthy weight. When I retired 4 years ago, I lost 20 pounds just by being more active and eating healthy food and avoiding fatty or sugery foods. Earlier this year I lost another 10 pounds with WW on line. I love the WW program because it really teaches you how to make the right choices and eat real food. Since I've been less active because of my hip and surgery, I gained about 5 back, but am getting back into the exercise routine and am trying to eat right again.

I really have empathy for those who struggle with weight issues. It's tough when there is food stimulus in front of us all the time - fast food restaurants, commercials on TV, tempting smells in the grocery stores. And less time and opportunity for basic exercise - walking and just plain moving more - in our lives.

Well Greaaattt Pam....I just hit 35.. Maybe that is why I started struggling more... Thanks alot!
I'm just kidding...Really I know what my problem is. I am just busy and lazy. We have a very busy schedule, granted we bring the majority of the busy-ness on ourselves, but still. I need to cook more and eat out less and then EXERCISE. I just don't...When I get home from work I tend to just collapse and not want to do anything.. Cooking is a major chore during the week because the boys have homework and ball practice and need to go to bed early...Throw in baths and time spent playing and reading with them, the evening just gets shot all to pieces.

I love to cook on the weekends when I don't feel rushed.

I hate living on a schedule when it comes to what I call my "me time". But I think that if I really want to lose weight I am going to have to schedule exercise in.
