Did you take art classes in school? Did you like it

I had art classes in high school - not much but a little. I don't remember much. I remember that I didn't do much because we didn't get that many assignments and I guess I wasn't good at starting things myself. And I know that I nearly failed the class and I was so angry with the teacher, because I had done everything he told me to do. Eventually I did pass, but it was a close call... :)

It's frustrating thinking about it now. Why wasn't I interested? Why didn't I understand that it's possible to learn how to paint and draw... It's not possible to be an expert right away.... it takes practice. I think I was always intimidated because I was thinking I had to be able to do it perfectly right away.

Perhaps I should blame my art teacher and not myself? Or perhaps I just wasn't perceptive at that age... :)

I took art classes and I LOVED them. They were the place that I fit in. ;)

No I didn't do anything.
I went to a really crap school in Germany.
I moved from an amazing school in the UK where it was so fun and so hands on to a school over there where every subject was written work.
Seriously apart from Sport everything was written. Music, Science, Art.....
Hence I quit part way through year 9.

I always had the arty side to me though, drew alot, made mini books and dabbled with lots of crafts as a teenager like cross stitch etc..

very interesting Q.. I absolutely loved art in school, doing different art subjects right up to college (grade 12).. then I went to art school (university) and was really disappointed..the lecturers didn't seem to teach and your work wasn't taken seriously unless fitting a certain style.. I dropped out after a year..and hardly did any art until scrapbooking came along, these days playing with paint and other mediums are the most enjoyable part of scrapping for me..funny how things turn around ;)

I had a terrible teacher in Highschool who used to discourage me all the time. she was retched. I applied for an Art High school in New Haven CT. and was accepted. I took half day classes at regular high school and then got to go to the city for the remainder of the day. I learned so much those two years about just experimenting. I ended up going to College and majoring in fine art. I enjoyed it for the most part. I experienced a lot of what Gina discribed but some of the professors and classes were fantastic. I took glass blowing--wow, and jewelry. One of my favorite classes was metal sculpting. It was awesome. You don't really learn to be an artist in school, but you can learn discipline and experience art in ways you wouldn't normally. It exposes you to lots of different art and people which I think is wonderful.

Love this question!

I did take art all throughout high school. I had the most amazing art teacher, Mr. Samuels, I will never forget him. He always encouraged me and told me that someday i would do something great with my art....well that hasn't happened ::) , but boy did he make me love art! A good teacher can stay in your head for a lifetime!!

Ceramics at high school for one term. Was both drawing and ceramics (too expensive for the school to offer only ceramics - you know, all that caly we used -- sigh). I wasn't very good at either, hahaha! :D
