An Update on the break in and the baby..a bit long...sorry

Postby Olivia » Wed Apr 25, 2012 11:03 am

Ok I am still a little down in the dumps since the break in at our house April 13th. We finally got all the stolen items listed and turned into our insurance company. It was a really long list and when we totaled it up the number was larger than we expected. We hope they give us at least half of the money back for the stolen items.
For me all I want at this point is to be able to buy a new tv (We went from a 40" flat screen to a 24" box..yuck) and get the boys a new Wii and Ds's. That is what infuriates me the most is that they took things from my boys. Yes, I lost a lot of heirloom, vintage family jewelry, but they didn't take the memories of those wonderful people. In the long run, as an adult, I know it is just stuff. But they did take things from my children, who at the ages of 6 & 9 lost stuff that was important to them, stuff that Santa had brought them and for me that is maddening.... I just want to get it replaced so that the boys can feel some sort of normalcy.
The alarm company put in the alarm in yesterday and I let the boys stay home from school to watch them put it in. They asked lots of questions and felt much safer once the alarm was installed.
I am taking a more comprehensive list to the police today, so they might recover some things in the future. At this point I am ok with not getting my things back, or at least knowing that the chances are very slim. I am ready to move on and stop letting it affect me. To stop being angry and worried, because that is not who I am or want to be.

On the positive side I have a dr. appt next week ( I will be 8 weeks by then) and I am looking forward to seeing what the doctor says about this baby. I know I am pregnant, and have the swollen, sore boobs (TMI sorry :D ) and queasiness to go along with it, but I will feel so much better to talk with the doctor and get more information from him. I think I will have an ultrasound and maybe listen to the heartbeat...I don't remember...it has been nearly 7 years since I was pregnant last. I guess I will worry a bit until I get the dr's take on it all. Is that normal??

Looking forward to the crop this weekend. I am hoping it drags me out of my funk... I need to print some pictures, clean up my space, and figure out what to do about entertainment while I am scrapping since my little tv got moved upstairs.

I'm so happy you'll be cropping with us Olivia! :)

I hope that things will be sorted with the insurance company as soon as possible. It's awful thinking about someone stealing from your kids... :( I understand that's hard to handle as a parent! *hugs*

How wonderful with the doctor's appointment! I have had early ultrasounds, and it's fab when you're able to see that little heart beating! At some point with Tuva I couldn't even see it myself, because it was so early and tiny and blurry on that screen (I think that was before 8 weeks), but the doctor said she saw it and it was still very comforting! :)

Wow, Olivia, so sorry to hear about your break-in. I can totally relate, 2 weeks ago we had an attempted break-in while we were gone on a Saturday night. They kicked and smashed our front door all up, but didn't acutally get in, maybe they were scared off. I feel a lot like you, I feel violated, I feel angry, I feel scared that they will come back. I hope that you can get some of your stuff back and some of your security back. I have learned not to be so nieve and trusting and to leave lights on and get an alarm.

Now on to the important and wonderful news! Congrats on the pregnancy, what an exciting time for your family. I hope your doctors appt. goes well!

Gosh, I missed this too.
I feel so sad for you all :(
What an awful thing to go through. But good and a blessing that you are all safe.
The alarm is a good idea.
I hope the insurance coughs up.

And congratulations to you, what lovely news :) :) :)
I saw Louis when I was 7 weeks. He was a teeny flashing dot.
Good luck and glad you will be joining us this weekend..

Wow, Olivia! I too missed this news! A break-in must have been so scary! Did it occur when you were gone or when you were home? I am so sorry about your losses too...totally not cool at all. >:(

It's so exciting though to learn about your pregnancy!! That is such happy news, I'm glad you have that to concentrate on and be excited for. So exciting, are you going to try and find out the sex when you are able?

I'm frustrated for you Olivia - I'm sure it feels like such a violation and can totally understand your anger about your kids stuff - I'd be the same way - mean people stink....

Happy to hear about the appt though and that you'll be cropping with us!! Maybe as part of the boys entertainment you could give them each some scraps to make a book about themselves to teach the new baby who they are?? My little guy (now 14) used to love cutting and pasting!

Hoping you feel better soon xoxo

but My boy is only 8month old and might be my last child :-\ so I hope we get to follow your pregnancy here :-D

OLIVIA!! I haven't been on the boards for a while, so I missed ALL of this. First of all, you and your family are safe and that is all that matters. I know it is frustrating...at least they didn't take your scrapbooking stuff!

AND HUGE CONGRATS on the baby!!! :P I want to hear all about all the little details! I love it and the thought of new babies coming into the world just melts my heart. Have you told the boys yet????

Thanks for all the well wishes and comforting words... It has been a weird, emotional few weeks.

I am very excited about the baby, but nervous that I can't feel it move or anything yet. I felt the same way when I was early pregnant with the boys. I will feel so much better once I see the baby and the doctor tells me that everything is a-okay... I really like my doctor and it helps that he is nice looking too. If I have to have someone looking at my business, I do prefer them to be nice looking.. LOL :D :D

The boys are super excited about the baby and even more excited that they will get to share a room. They waver back and forth on what they want...a boy or a girl. Carter is ok with having a girl as long as she doesn't wear pink or purple and that she plays sports. He is also unwilling to attend ballet. LOL He is pretty specific for a 9 year old....

The alarm makes us feel so much better... I met with the police investigator yesterday and gave him a good list of stuff that was missing. He didn't give me high hopes of finding anything and at this point (after going to pawn shops and cash for gold places) I am willing to let go of my things and move on. I am not an angry person by nature and I just need to let it go and move forward. Otherwise I will continue to be their victim.. I will not be a victim of mean, stupid people.

We are hoping to get a quote tomorrow from our insurance adjustor and if we feel it is enough for what we quoted them then we will accept it and they will cut us a check. I look forward to buying new stuff for the boys to replace their lost game systems and a new TV. Carter is tired of trying to watch NBA and MLB games on that 24" tv. He get so frustrated, " MOM, some guy just made a great catch in center...I have no idea who it was...arrghhh!" It is rather funny in a sad way.

Jess and I have also decided to start buying new jewelry pieces to replace the ones that got taken. We plan to find really interesting, one-of-a-kind type of pieces that we can pass on to the kids and that have a story behind them. I can't wait to shop the Riverwalk in San Antonio this summer. Maybe I will find any amazing piece of jewelry there.

I can tell my mood has improved in the past few days. It is kind of like coming out from under a dark cloud into the sunshine. I am really looking forward to this weekend and chatting with you all. I do hope and expect the tom-foolery is thick this weekend!

Oh, Olivia! Your improved mood, " like coming out from under a dark cloud into the sunshine," made me feel all warm inside after reading about your break-in and thinking of all the yuckiness of people and the losses you incurred.

Is it too soon for jokes about it? Albeit sick and twisted, I was thinking that maybe the Universe was making room in your home for Baby #3. :-\

I love Karen's idea of the boys making little books to teach the baby about themselves. With the lovely artwork you do with them, that seems right up your alley.

Can't wait to hear the news from the doctor, and wishing you all the best in this next phase of your family's journey and adventure!

{{Hugs!))
