cameo vs original silhouette...

Postby alissa » Sun Apr 15, 2012 1:03 pm

i have really been wanting a cameo lately but i still have the original silhouette new in the box. :P
and, because the cameo is an investment, i'm wondering if i should just get out my brand new original and see it it will do what i want it to and save myself the money $$$.

anyone here know the biggest differences between the 2, besides the size I can deal with that part?

can i cut everything in the silhouette store with my original?
can i cut any fonts with my original?

thanks for your help and advice... :)

Hi Alissa, I've just bought the cameo and wish I could do more with it. I have many ideas in my head but no clue as to exectuting them. I'll just keep playing and muddling through lol.
I don't know about using the new files on the older machine but I'm pretty sure the reverse you can, as in using the older files on the new machine. Also have no idea about the difference between the machines.
I'd be interested in learning more about the cameo too, if anyone would like to share their tips and secrets ;)

so, i did a little research and found out i can do all the same things with my original silhouette as the cameo. the size difference is the main thing. oh, and some say i can't print and cut, but i think you can you just have to use a regular printer first. (not interested in print and cut and 12x12 doesn't matter to me at this pint)
i also found out i need to download the updated software from the silhouette site and then i'm good to go!

COOL!

$300 saved!!!! :)

I have the Silhouette Cameo but I don't know what the original was like as I didn't use or have that. This is my first electronic die-cutting machine ever and I have to say that I LOVE IT to pieces! ;D That said, I'm sure that I don't know the half of what I could do with it. So far I've just cut images from the online Silhouette library. I would love to learn how to cut images that are not in the gallery...does anyone know how to do that? I also have an idea for making some t-shirts for Zoey's birthday party guests but haven't cut using one of the kits yet for that either.

I used the print and cut feature on the original silhouette. It can be a little tempermental but it works. It worked better with light colored paper. Enjoy it.
