We are off to the beach for a week next week.
It's about 2 1/2hrs drive away. We love it there.
Our nearest beach though is just under an hour away.

How far is your nearest beach?

we used to live with in a short walk of a beach. Now we are about half an hour drive.
I grew up on the beach, well almost... ok so not really but there is a story of me @ 18mths walking myself to the beach. Mum and Dad found a trail of my clothes all the way to the beach, which was across the highway from our house... yes I said highway!

I grew up always close to the beach. At one house we were across the street, in CT. our house was a 30 minute drive. I lived on Block Island for several years and was never more than minutes from the ocean. It is only 12 miles long by 3 miles wide. Alas, now I am land locked in Montana. I haven't seen the ocean in almost 5 years. It would take me a day to drive to the beach, the closest would be Washington State.

Well... We live by the lake Mälaren and that is just about 10 minutes walk from us...
So that is great in the summertime!

We have a lake house in Michigan, that my hubby and I try to go to most weekends even in the winter. During the week we live on the Chicago side of Lake Mi, but we only ever hit the beaches on the MI side - so much quieter and pristine.

We're 40 mins drive from the beach, Norfolk has a lot of coastline and most of it is beautiful. Our favourite beach has had huge piles of rocks placed a little way out to sea in an attempt to stem coastal erosion, and they have caused large very sandym very shallow areas just at the shore, perfect for the children .

We've been living in NY for almost 4 years now and it's the furthest we've ever lived from the ocean! My husband grew up on the ocean and I grew up less than an hour away from the beach so we went all. the. time! We are about 2+ hours from the beach now! We miss it a lot!

@ Denise - OMGosh - Block Island...........LOVE. love. love. how cool that you got to live there - such a great place - we've been a few times and hope to go and stay for a vacation some time soon! (We used to be able to easily do a day trip there with our bikes/ferry etc.)
