Question of the Day

QOTD 02/29/12

Postby Funky Fairy » Wed Feb 29, 2012 7:05 am

Today being the 29th Feb. Girls are officially allowed to propose to their men :)

How were you proposed to?
And if you are still waiting what would be your ideal proposal?

Ade and myself started talking about wanting to be together for the rest of our lives after being together for just 5-6 weeks. That was in the September.
We talked about it lots and differnt ways and places we could do it and decided during the first England Football World Cup in the June that we would get married in Florida.
We booked it for the following March.

Ade wouldn't officially propose until my divorce came through which took longer than expected.
He finally proposed on Christmas Eve, just the 2 of us.
It obviously wasn't a surprise, but was lovely anyway :)

Wonderful story Lisa. Bill and I had a similar situation in that we talked about it pretty early on. We were together perhaps 4/5 months and he asked me if I would want to get married and have a family. I was 28 and he was 43. He to was seperated for over a year but not divorced yet. We did things quite backwards. :) I was pregnant less than a year after meeting him and carried Conner on my hip into the house we were married at.

I don't think he ever officially asked me but I never doubted we were meant to be together. Our wedding was small and so beautiful.

Like Hanna, we have a bunch of kids by now and we absolutely intend to spend the rest of our lives together, but we're not married. :) We've been talking about it and there are lots of "boring" reasons (legal stuff) making it a very good idea to get married, but I guess we haven't had the time and energt to do something about it. ;D

I don't know if it will happen and if it does I don't know who will propose. It's not like I'm waiting... :) and I'd do it any day, not only on Feb 29, if I decided to do so. :)

I love your story Lisa. I pretend that I don't care about romantic stuff, but I guess it's not 100% true... :D

Ours was very unromatic ::) , Paul was married before, only for just over a year before they realised it was wrong. We met straight after that, and knew we were 'lifetime' material, but it took 4 years to sort a divorce out, for various reasons. On the day the final paperwork came through, I just said to Paul 'PLEASE can we get married now, I've waited and waited and I can't wait any longer'!! He sighed and said 'oh, go on then' - poor fella felt a bit cornered but I didn't care and just wanted to get on with it ;D.

So, hardly the most romantic situation but I wasn't bothered, I just wanted my man and wanted to be married to him :). It was a perfect wedding and we've never looked back.

Oh, I love hearing all of these stories!

Michael and I met on e-harmony. He proposed one year after we started dating. He got down on one knee at the park by my house, and gave me the whole speech about why he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. It truly blew me away. We got married five months later in that same park. It was the second marriage for both of us. It's been 4 years now and he is still my prince charming.

P.S. E-harmony works! I highly recommend it! ;)

What a great read this thread was!! I love the stories!

Hubs proposed to me after we had been dating for a few years. He proposed on a Friday and we went away the following day for a weekend at a hotel near Letchworth State Park and hiked up to a tree way off the beaten path where he had carved our initials in a tree. We took a picture by that tree with me showing off my new ring. :)

We got married a year and a half later. The honeymoon was the crazy part of our story. Hubs was going through the hiring process to become a deputy sheriff and we couldn't book any trips in case he needed to be around that week for tests or interviews. It takes months to get cleared to go to the Academy. We got lucky and he was good to travel that week, so we drove 13 hours to Bar Harbour, Maine and just picked a hotel to stay at on the main street. It was amazing! But so weird to drive all that way with nothing reserved for us. So fun!

Diana I love Bar Harbor! Some of our best trips have been like that, no plan.

e-harmony, that is amazing. I just assumed those sights didn't work. that's awesome. :)

Anna, I really just assumed that you were married, well you might as well be. :) I think Marie said she wasn't either. What is it with you sexy Scandinavians? and Hannah as well. ;)

Really truly, love is love. a family is much more than a wedding.

I love the read all these stories. And I really love that they're not all romantic!

I don't tell our story very often because it embarrasses my DH a little bit. We moved in together in November and it was an open secret that if that went well, we'd get married. I knew he wouldn't think to propose on Valentine's day, so we went to a hockey game instead (and had a romantic time, we're Canadians, after all!). But then I kept waiting and wondering. One night after we had a fair bit of wine with a friend who was visiting, my tongue got loose enough to ask him when he was going to ask me. ::) Turns out he had a very romantic plan to propose on my birthday while we were traveling in Turkey.

Not sure why the story embarrasses Don when I'm the one who stuck my foot in it. :D

Both of my parents, after their divorce, re-married after meeting their new spouses online on dating sites. :)
