Being Alone

Postby Funky Fairy » Tue Jan 10, 2012 3:56 am

Do you get nervous when you are alone?

I've just come in from the school run and a crash came from one of the kids rooms upstairs.
It's happened before and I hate it.
I crept upstairs with cell phone in hand but the doors are closed :(
I feel really nervy now and keep checking over my shoulder.
I've unlocked the doors and my window by my desk incase I need to make a quick departure.

I'm so rubbish alone.

Would you have gone straight into the room then?

I probably would have listened first, stood quietly at the door then busrt in so if someone was in there I would have scared them.
OR...
I would have quietly gone back outside and rang the police to come check lol

I can always blame the cats if I hear strange noises and that's pretty good because it makes me less nervous. I do ok during the days, but I can be ridiculously afraid when it's dark...

I don't know what I had done in your situation Lisa! I hope all is ok! Perhaps one of the kids created an unstable pile of something that now fell over?

It's probably clothing in Hollie's room.
She seems to be creating piles of it lately ::)
We have wooden floors which makes everything louder.

Anna, I know what you mean. We have the guinea pigs in the hallway. Every noise downstairs is put down to them. Makes me much less nervous.

I am like Sharmaine, I would probably listen for a moment and then just open the door. I am pretty fierce about things like that. I am cautious but not afraid. My mind always comes up with a solution like the cat, a pile fell, etc. Sorry Lisa. put some cheerful music on. That might help.

We don't have cats so any big boom makes me nervous and it is dark here and our police station is far so I do get frightened sometimes. To be honest, when I am really scared I go in with hairspray and a lighter. I know..bad... but never with the kids, LOL! But that isn't often :)

Good to hear so many of you are so brave!

Never nervous in my own place, but when I was younger and housesat I would get easily freaked out. Now I have to reassure the dog, which is silly since he's supposed to protect me.

I don't usually get too afraid at home, and noises that happen are usually the cats. :)
Did you ever figure out what it was?

My hubby works a 7 night shift and its just me and the kids home alone. I get SOOOO freaked out at night...thinking of all the bad things that could happen. I plan escape routes in my head...keep the cell phone ever so close...and I used to keep the dog in the bedroom with me, but now I let her roam in the house so that if anyone comes in she will get 'em first! :)

I never used to be like this before I had kids....

Audrey, you sound like me :)
I have plans in my head too.

When I lived in Germany we lived on a really nice housing estate just outside of Dusseldorf.
The American and Canadian ice hockey players and their families were housed here too as they played for the local Dusseldorf team DEG. They were like top of the top league and so popular.
We were friend with these families and being a teen I used to babysit alot for them.
But sometimes there would be wierdos hanging around the homes.
It used to freak me out like crazy.
One time I was coming down the stairs and there was someones face pressed against the glass by the front door :(
I like the money but hated the job.

i used to be afraid at night.

it used to be when kelly was out of town, i wouldn't sleep well the first night he was gone. but i have come to the conclusion that if someone breaks in and is trying to kill me, i might as well be well rested so i can fight back. now i sleep like a baby, but would be ready to be ninja.

i'm home alone all day usually, when there's a crash, it's usually me :)

After reading this Emily I said....NNNNIIIIINNNJJJJAAAAAA in my head in a fake chinese accent like my boys used to. That is so funny! But true, seriously.

I think I am not afraid of stuff so much anymore because scary things have happened to me and I dealt with it. I have never been attacked by a person but I was attacked by a 30lb rabid raccoon. I strangled that sucker to death. I think I would go all ninja on some intruder as well. :)
