SPRING CROP 2012 - Saturday 9am CLASS - ON THE PICNIC TABLE

When the paint was dry I outlined the shapes with a black marker.

To finish my jar I added Glimmer Mist, Key Lime Pie. I applied several layers, but I purposely let the colour go on a bit unevenly. A actually love that you can see how the mist has been running... :)

Another option is to colour your jar using Alcohol Inks. I used two colours of ink and added them - one at a time - to the inside of the jar. I added a few drops at a time, turning the jar and letting the ink run until I was happy with the result.

So pretty! Love the color combo!

This keeps getting better, the inks are amazing! I love that it's still translucent!

Thank you so much Sherry! :) I need to play more with my alcohol inks. It was really fun and I have to admit that I haven't used them that much before.

Another possibility is to use heat embossing directly on your jar. The clear stamps are easy to use since they are so flexible and I left the butterfly stamp on it's original piece of plastic for some extra support, applied embossing ink to the stamp and stamped onto my glass jar. I then added Zing embossing powder and used my heat gun to melt it.

It took quite a long time to melt the powder on the glass and when it finally melted the glass got really hot, so be careful!

Another idea is to use Glimmer Glam to paint your jars.

The plan is to have straws or other simple sticks standing in the jars. It is then possible to attach something decorative to the straw or stick. :) We are using tissue paper to support the straw or stick inside the jar.

Simply wrap the tissue paper around the straw.

And stick it into the jar. :)

The tissue paper contributes to the look of the finished piece. You can play around with different colours and you can also use other things, such as for example newspaper pages or tulle.

Now we are moving on to some ideas on how to finish the jars and how to decorate the straws/sticks. :D

One possibility is to use jars as placement card holders. I made one example where I die cut circles out of cardboard. I added some machine stitching along the edges, wrote Alva's name using a white pen and cut out a couple of butterflies from one of the patterned papers of the May kit. I also added Distress Stickles Clear Rock Candy, to the butterflies.

Image

Paint the straw white using gesso and then glue it to the back of one of the circles (I had practiced writing 'Alva' on the back of my circle... :) ).

Image

Allow the glue to dry some before adding the other circle to the back of the straw.

Hi Anna - I'm loving these! Just tidy'd up my space so now I can play!

I'm loving the stencil, embossing and alcohol inks - who knew! I have some sitting unused since a Tim Holtz workshop I took a few years ago!

I used this together with a white jar. I loved the gessoed look so much that I left some jars like this - just twine and gesso.

You can also see that I used newspaper inside this jar.
