Mini Book Madness

Hello.

Today I am going to show you how I made my latest mini book with just a few little journal cards and some washi tape. Yes it really is as easy as that.

I got the ‘Drawing Board‘ addon to go  with my January Blueprint kit. With this addon came a pack of ‘Schoolhouse File Cards’ from Chic Tags. If you didn’t get this addon and fancy giving this mini book a go, don’t panic, you can still make it with other journal cards too.

This is how the mini book looks finished.

And now I will go through how I made it.

1. Taking the Chic Tag Cards to start. These will be our pages. On the back of each card it’s just plain white. We want to jazz them up a little so I’ve taken the Cocoa Daisy papers from the January kit. I’ve cut them down so they are slightly smaller than the cards and rounded off the egdes with a corner punch before sticking them on the back of each card. The Chic Tag Cards are also rounded which is why I rounded off the patterned papers too.

2.  It’s washi tape time now. Take a roll of any washi tape. The wider options will work better here. I’ve stuck the tape the along the whole length of the left side of each card (the side without the tab). The ends get trimmed and the reverse side then gets taped too. Again trim the edges so they are neat. I then took my corner punch again so the corners of the washi tape  are also rounded.

3. It’s now time to decorate and embellish. I haven’t gone too OTT with this mini. I’ve simply used a small round punch and a tiny heart punch to embellish each page.  I rubbed all the sides of the cards and circle punches with a Prima Chalk Ink. These are perfect for edging. I decided that this mini was going to be some highlights from 2013. The Thickers were in the January Main Kit.

4. The minibook is more or less finished now, you just need to punch a hole in the top left corner of each page. I’ve used a book ring to attach the pages together but you could also use ribbon or twine. Now you can add your little photos and your journaling. I’ve also added other little bits and pieces throughout that I had lying around leftover from some other kits.

And the back of the book.

You can see here how inking the edges really makes a difference.

So there you have it, some of our best bits from 2013. Easy eh?!!

I also wanted to show you this mini book that Jody made with her January Kit. It’s so cute : )

I love how Jody tied it together with wool. Gives it such a warm homely feel, don’t you agree?

Whereas my book was about saying goodbye to 2013, Jody’s is all about embracing this new year. Jody has made a place for her goals, her plans and some quotes for inspiration. I like this idea. Here are some photos inside the book.

Another thing I admire about Jody is how she is fearless when it comes to cutting up her patterned papers. Take at look at the maps paper here. Oh and I do love the scalloped edge from another page and how it peeps through.

I do hope you like our January Mini Books.

Have a wonderful weekend.
