Title Work

Hello, it’s Lisa with you today. I’m here to chat about ‘Title Work’.

The title on a layout is often the main focal point, aside from the photo(s) of course. There are so many different forms of alpha’s out there, but sometimes it’s fun to jazz them up a little. Add your own creative touch to your title work.

I’m going to show you some of my favourite ways how I like to do this.

First of all, hand drawn titles. I love these. I start off with a piece of scrap paper and a pencil and scribble my title down, I then build on this and then add pen and finish with colour. It’s then cut out and stuck on the page like this. This one is on patterened paper and the title written out using pencil and a black journal pen.

This example I’ve added 3 different coloured water pencils.

On this LO here, from this months gallery, I’ve used the plain coloured Thickers from the Main Kit. They needed brightening up a little though to stand out on my bright page. So I coated them in a white Distress Stain (Picket Fence) and once dry I coloured them in with a yellow promarker pen.

Changing the colour of thickers is a really good way  to transform your title if the colour isn’t quite right. You can sand them down, peel off the top. Paint them, ink them, colour then, add glossy accents, glitter… These chipboard alphas, had the top layer peeled off, were inked and I added glossy accents to leave them with a lovely glossy finish.

This title started off as foam thickers. The got covered in paint and once dry I applied some more paint but in a different shade of blue and just wiped it over with the tip of my finger so not to coat them completely.

Another favourite way of mine is to add stitching to a title. It breaks the block of colour up and helps it become part of the LO rather than just a title that’s been stuck down.

I’ve sewn in to these alpha stickers too.

Then there’s mixing them up a little too. Rather than just using the same set of alphas, you can mix and match like here I have used 3 different types.

There is also the longer title. Not all titles have to be shortened down to one or two words. They can become part of your journaling too.

On this LO here I used a little set of mini alphabet stamps and stamped out on my photo.

I used the mini alpha stickers from the ‘Orion’ addon this month on this LO.

I hope this has given you some ideas on how to add a little more interest to your title work.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Whatching “The vow” right now and just heard the quote from their wedding, that you used! I really like those words, beautyful.

Hi Monica, yes that’s where that quote came from. Isn’t it beautiful?! Love that movie so much x

  2. Marti Richards

Beautiful work, Lisa! Thanks for the tip about changing Thickers- I always forget that I can peel off the top layer and go from there. I do love to stitch my Thickers down. 🙂

I too love the thickers hint! Great suggestion and great post!

These are beautiful layouts, and excellent tips and inspiration! I love the way you’ve tacked down some letters with embroidery floss. Your hand written titles are great, too!

Love all of these title ideas! The long titles with tiny stickers are my faves. 🙂
