Guest Designer, Nicole Nowosad

What happens when you have a guest designer that rocks the paper and a kit that has awesome paper to rock? You end up with a bunch of gorgeous layouts full of patterned papers and delightful embellishments.

We are happy to introduce our by April Guest Designer, Nicole Nowosad, to you this morning. As you’ll learn, Nicole loves patterned paper. We think you’ll fall in love what she’s done with our April kit, Hint of Sunshine, just like we did. Please be sure to check out her entire gallery and leave so love.

Nicole Headshot 2013

Hi there, my name is Nicole Nowosad and I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada! I am a working mom of three (2 boys 11, and 8 and our 5 yr old princess), and have been married for almost 15 years. I started scrapbooking about 15 years ago when I was planning our wedding. If I had to define my style, I would say it is evolving. I love to try different things on my projects, playing with shape and colour – and oh I LOVE paper – it is my go to supply – I love to cut it up, punch it, and try new things/different ways to work it! I love colour and a little sparkle too.

I am currently on the Design Team for Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine, Jillibean Soup, Bella Blvd and Hampton Art. I have been published several times in Scrapbook & Cards Today Magazine, Scrapbook Trends, Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine.

And here are her answers to our questionnaire, I hope you enjoy learning more about Nicole.

1. What is your most creative time?

I find that I am the most creative on the weekend; day or night does matter… just knowing I can stay up late and go to it with some caffeine is all it takes Smile

2. Share your current top 5 favorite songs/music groups with us.
Wow, I pretty much like all kinds of music. If I had to choose 5 songs they would be:

“I dreamed a dream” from Les Miserables
“Bust a Move” by Young MC
“Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke
“Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson
“We’re not going to take it” by Twisted Sister

Yeah, I am weird.

3. If you where in a Rock N’ Roll band, what would your job be?
Definitely the bass/guitar player – I took lessons for 7 years when I was growing up and always wanted an electric guitar and quit because my parents just wouldn’t get me one! lol

4. Did you ever want to change your name? If so, to what?
When I was much younger, I did want to change it to something more “fun” like Jessica or Katie… but now, I am okay with my name…. as long as you don’t call me Nikki. I seriously dislike it and normally don’t even respond to someone when they call me by that name (although my mother still does)!

5. If your life was a movie, what actress would play you?
Sarah Jessica Parker – not for looks, but for sense of style that I wish I had and the fact that she is the center of the friendships in Sex in the City. I am a little like that.

6. What’s your favorite accessory?
Well, I have a slight accessory addiction and have a ton of costume jewelery…but even saying that, I can’t leave the how without earrings. So yeah, earrings. Usually big ones.

7. How do you cheer yourself up?
Truthfully?? I don’t. I text my bestie Vanessa and she drags me out of my slump. She is great like that!!

8. If you could have a luncheon with any three people (real of fictitious/ from any time period, dead or alive), which three people would you choose and why?
Good question.
1) Oprah – doesn’t everyone choose Oprah?
2) Hitler – because I would like to know what the heck he was thinking and mostly give him a piece of my mind.
3) Bill Gates – I would love to know how he gained the courage to get started and to talk about his philanthropic adventures

9. What food would describe your style?
Pizza. Lots of toppings, ha ha ha

10. What is “dressed up” for you?
Dress and high heels. Big jewellery. Big Hair. Bright lipstick. Anything that sparkles.

Meet Vivian Masket, our March Guest Designer

Vivian Masket is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She and I met years ago at a crop at Archivers and we’ve been friends ever since. A group of us that lived the in the Denver Metro area became close and would get together often to scrap. So many great memories and friendships were formed from those crops. In the early years, Viv and I would send layouts back and forth to each other, asking what the page needed. Then life started to get busier, we became more confident in our designs, and that back and forth as well as the monthly cropping dwindled, but Vivian’s remained a dear friend.

Enter Cocoa Daisy and a guest designer was needed for the March kit. Vivian happily agreed. She’s known for her clean, graphically inspired style, as well as her very clever usage of embellishments, both of which she showcased beautifully this month. She’s also very good at putting together kits for her friends, but this was the first time she ever scrapped with one, so it was fun to see her delight as she put together her entire gallery in one day using the March kit, Grey Street. She did an amazing job! Please check out her gallery.

Here’s more about our guest.

Vivian Masket’s roots as a paper crafter date back to her elementary school days, when she and a childhood friend ran their own stationery business. Vivian no longer uses paint pens to create sets of stationery with rainbows, unicorns, and ice cream cones; instead, she applies her love of paper, color, and design to scrapbooking and cardmaking. She has become obsessed with her Silhouette Cameo and rarely creates a project anymore without adding a die cut touch somewhere. Vivian has also become overly reliant on her wide-format printer and, to her chagrin, never handwrites on her layouts anymore. Vivian has had her layouts and cards published in many magazines and idea books and is currently on the October Afternoon design team. When not gluing patterned paper and photos to cardstock, Vivian can be found working as an instructional coach for her local school district, hanging out in her 1928 home in Denver with her husband and her two kids (Eli, age 12, and Sadie, age almost 9), traveling, or creating her next masterpiece in the kitchen.

1.What is your most creative time? Lazy weekend days when I can play music and create all day long. Those days are rare, but cherished!
2. Share your current top 5 favorite songs/music groups with us. Passenger, Fleet Foxes, The Weepies, Of Monsters & Men, One Republic
3. If you were in a Rock N’ Roll band, what would your job be? I’d design the album covers. Either that or the interior of the tour bus. Or both.
4. Did you ever want to change your name? If so, to what? I briefly flirted with a shift to my middle name when I was a teenager. Briefly. I was sick of people calling me “Vivi” but then realized how quickly Suzanne would become “Suzi” (yes, with an “i” – and a bubble dot over the “i” – it was the 80s).
5. If your life was a movie, what actress would play you? People have told me I look like Mary Louise Parker, Marisa Tomei, or Anne Hathaway. However, I would like Maggie Smith to deliver my one-liners. (If you are not a “Downton Abbey’ watcher, check this out:,,20769936,00.html)
6. What’s your favorite accessory? Necklaces or scarves – I can throw them on with little effort on my way out the door. I am always running behind!
7. How do you cheer yourself up? Snuggles and silly time with my kids.
8. If you could have a luncheon with any three people (real of fictitious/ from any time period, dead or alive), which three people would you choose and why? Jane Austen, Thomas Jefferson, and Mother Teresa. (My husband suggested Spock, Kirk, and Bones.)
9. What food would describe your style? An artfully composed salad, with one or two unexpected ingredients, served on a white plate.
10. What is “dressed up” for you? Dinner out downtown in jeans, boots, a patterned black and white top, and a black cardigan.

Thank you Vivian, it’s been a pleasure having you be our March Guest Designer!

Meet Piradee Talvanna, our February Guest Designer

We are so excited that Piradee is joining us this month. When we saw the kit contents of Color Swatch, we knew right then that it was the perfect month for her to be here at Cocoa Daisy. Why? Because A: Piradee has an awesome graphic style, and there’s lots of awesome graphic-ness in the kit. B: Because Piradee loves hot pink and there’s enough of that to go around, but not too much to make Color Swatch an over-the-top pink kit. C: Piradee has the CUTEST new little one who looks fabulous in pinks and has a gorgeous shock of black hair, making her pictures a perfect fit for this kit. Piradee did not disappoint us, we’re enjoying plenty of cuteness thanks to Sophia this month!
Please join us as we welcome Piradee Talvanna and check out her lovely Color Swatch gallery this month.
Piradee here from Bangkok, Thailand although I’m currently working and living in Singapore with my dearest hubby and little Sophia (4 months old). It was when I relocated to Singapore in mid-2008 for work that I discovered and fell in love with this hobby and have been addicted ever since.  When I’m not working or shopping, you can always find me creating away on my craft table – mixing and matching things, digging through baskets filled with yummy scrapbooking goodies or trying to figure out what else I should add to the layout/project that I’m working on.  And that is pretty much why I love this hobby so much, not only does it provide me an escape from work, but allows me to explore my creativity and document the memories that we are creating along the way. I design for Maya Road and Webster’s Pages too!

1. What is your most creative time?
It’s late late late night. I’m pretty much a night owl now, when everyone is asleep I come out to play.

2. Share your current top 5 favorite songs/music groups with us.
“Royals” by Lorde
“Somebody that I used to know” by Gotye
“Amalfi” by Hooverphonic
“I Need My Girl” by The National
and last but not least, one that I can’t get out of my head since Christmas. Love this a cappella group!
“Little Drummer Boy” sung by Pentatonix

3. If you where in a Rock N’ Roll band, what would your job be?
Honestly, not a clue. You would find me out in the audience banging my head with a bottle of panadol in hand. (although at this age it might only be the panadol and not the head banging part). uhmmmm.

4. Did you ever want to change your name? If so, to what?
Given that I’ve been called “peerde”, “dee”, “perr”, “p”, “radee” and “prada” (and many more); I’m still ok with “Piradee”

5. If your life was a movie, what actress would play you?
Gotta say, still casting.

6. What’s your favorite accessory?
Bags! It’s something that I can stop buying.

7. How do you cheer yourself up?
As you can guess from the previous answer… shopping! (Although the after math usually causes me more pain than before; nothing left to put in the bags and hence the cycle then starts over; however noticed a trend lately, less of mine and lots more of Sophia’s)

8. If you could have a luncheon with any three people (real of fictitious/ from any time period, dead or alive), which three people would you choose and why?
Steve Jobs – would love to get a glimpse of his drive and determination
Dr. Who – how fun would that be, wonder if he would let me see the tardis after lunch
My father – would be great to see him again, have lots to share

9. What food would describe your style?
A medium-rare juicy burger topped with truffles and a bowl of salad (a mix of everything but yet simple at heart)

10. What is “dressed up” for you?
Ever since the pregnancy, heels will do it (think t-shirt, sweat pants and heels).

Thank you so much Piradee, it’s been wonderful getting to know you better, you really made the kit shine!

Happy New Year and Ann-Marie Espinoza, our January Guest Designer

YAY! It’s 2014 and we couldn’t be more excited for this new year ahead! We wish you a prosperous and creative 365 days and hope you’ll continue to include Cocoa Daisy in your journey.

Our January kit Blueprint shines in the hands of our awesome Guest Designer, Ann-Marie Espinoza nee Morris (recently married, you can read all about her wonderful honeymoon in the Pacific Northwest on her blog Ann Marie Loves). We loved what she did with just the main kit, she shows how bright and cheery this kit can be. She also shows that you can do a LOT with one kit! Be sure to check out her entire gallery, it’s so worth the click!

Ann-Marie is a freelance designer, crafter, and stylist living in Pasadena, California with her new husband John. She spends her days making things by hand, styling her home, and blogging for herself and BasicGrey. When she’s not behind the computer or camera, you can find her thrifting for fun home decor pieces, taking as many Zumba and yoga classes as possible, or scrolling through her favorite blogs and Pinterest for visual inspiration. She is a paper enthusiast, flea market frequenter, Instagram-aholic, textbook introvert, photography fiend, and Mexican food lover who is always on the hunt for her next great creative adventure.

1. What is your most creative time?

Definitely late at night. For better or worse, I’m a total night owl who gets the most accomplished between the hours of 10pm and 2am.
2. Share your current top 5 favorite songs/music groups with us.

Oh gosh, my musical taste is always evolving! Right now I’m really loving John Legend, Drake, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, and Ella Fitzgerald.
3. If you were in a Rock N’ Roll band, what would your job be?

I would love to be the lead singer! In real life, I can’t sing to save my life, so to be able to front a band with my voice would be amazing! Plus, I’d probably get to rock some pretty cool costumes and hairstyles ;)

4. Did you ever want to change your name? If so, to what?

Yes! I have always despised having a double first name, and as a result, being called Ann since most people assume that Marie is my middle name. For years I longed for a “normal” name, like Sarah or Courtney! Haha!

5. If your life was a movie, what actress would play you?

Kristen Wiig! I can only imagine how equally hilarious and heartfelt her performance of my life would be.

6. What’s your favorite accessory?

It’s definitely a toss up between hats (fedoras, beanies, etc) and oversized sunglasses. As long as I have one of the two (or both!), I feel like I am put together.

7. How do you cheer yourself up?

I will treat myself to a fancy latte, stop by Anthropologie for a burst of creative inspiration, or when all else fails, take a nice long nap.

8. If you could have a luncheon with any three people (real of fictitious/ from any time period, dead or alive), which three people would you choose and why?

1. The Bluth family (of Arrested Development fame)
2. Emily Henderson (this luncheon would obviously be followed up by her styling my home. Obviously.)
3. Jimmy Fallon (because he is hilarious and adorable)

9. What food would describe your style?

Hmmm…probably a taco because I love a good mix of colors, textures, and patterns, packaged up in a neat little container.

10. What is “dressed up” for you?

A pair of cords, an oversized sweater, lace-up wedges, and and a giant top knot.

A big thank you to Ann-Marie for being our Guest Designer, especially during this busy time of year. We love your fun and playful approach to our kit!
