Tips & Tricks – Taking Inspiration

When you scrapbook, where do you take your inspiration from?

We’ve all hit that mental block at times and you just need something to give you that little push. I really enjoy using a sketch to get me kick started sometimes.

Do you ever scraplift? I’ve heard it said before that it feels like copying, but it really is a good way to find inspiration. I usually find that my end piece does not resemble the orginal piece at all. But it does get me started. One of our challenges during our crop weekend was to visit the Cocoa Daisy gallery. To take a good look at everyone’s work and then choose a piece to lift. It’s so fun seeing how the LO’s are created.

I went through the gallery and this one by Ami really caught my eye.

I really liked how the design was over to the one side and it was that strip across the bottom of the photo with the strips of paper below that really caught my eye.

I swapped the one larger photo that Ami used for my 4 smaller photos. I used a quote for my strip and turned some scraps of patterned paper in to little flags. (And sssssshhhhh don’t tell anyone, but this LO is also a rather big August kit sneak!!   ; )   )

Looking through the challenge LO’s now as they are coming in this week, I love comparing.

Marsha picked our Aliza Deutch’s LO from the gallery. This to me is such a perfect LO to lift. So many possibilities.

And here is Marsha’s take. I love the smaller title at the top and the detail down the righthand side of the photo. Great LO’s ladies!!

Marie found this LO by TerryB. This is an interesting one to lift. Lots of white space.

And Marie totally nailed it. I love how you can totally see Terry’s original work in Marie’s but Marie added her own artsy style to the page. It just goes to show that you can take inspiration from someone with a different style and still be true to your own ways.

New Daisy ‘kzfoug‘ took Emily’s LO from the gallery. Such cool title work here.

And created this. I love the layering under the photo and how the title came out.

There are more scraplifts for you to see here. There are some great pages and if you want to join in, this challenge and the other crop challenges all run until the end of the week. There’s still plenty of time.

If you click here, you can see all the crop challenges and click to each one. And here is the link straight to the gallery for lots of wonderful inspiration.

Thank you Daisies for inspiring me daily.

Wow, these are great projects! I love the way bits of the originals shine through but everyone’s personal style is really obvious.
