Sweet Sixteen Challenge~

Hello Daisies!
Today is another Designer Challenge for you to all be inspired by and play along with for the chance to win a $10 coupon to the Daisy Boutique. I hope you are up for something a little fun and different, and even a bit ‘challenging’ too!
Yesterday was an emotional day for me as my family celebrated our sweet Teagan’s 16th birthday. For those of you who don’t know, Teagan died tragically at age 4. Her joy and beauty continue to inspire me to this day though, and as we marked another birthday without her here on earth it was indeed a bittersweet day for me.

But out of my emotions and in keeping with the love she had for fun in life, I have decided on today’s challenge for you, which is appropriately being called the” Sweet 16 Challenge”. I hope many of you will take it on and I look forward to seeing all the different ways this challenge comes to life on your pages and projects!
Here are the details and a couple of examples to get you started.
The theme is “Sweet 16” and the challenge is to use 16 different elements on your layout, card or project. I know 16 sounds like a lot, but that is sort of the fun and also I love the idea of using lots of bits and pieces and totally layering it up! I just know you have plenty of scraps to dig into and sometimes we just need an excuse to use the things we are saving and love most. THIS is the perfect opportunity to use those favorite items for sure! I know using my favorite bits and pieces from kits or out of my ever-growing stash is one guarantee that I will love the final result- no matter what I create or why. You can’t help but love something when it has all your favorite things on it!
So, here is the first example…a page from my tiny composition notebook. These are the opening pages to a little book that I am writing daily “good things” that happen to me or in my life. It is just a colorful, random-bits of goodies to get my book going and set the tone for what’s inside.

Here is a breakdown of my “16 things”:
– 3 different punches (scallop, tab and circle)
– 3 different stamps (arrows, tab and woodgrain bookplate)
– 3 different stickers (scallop edge, striped flags, and mini word ‘today’)
– 2 wood bits (arrow and card)
– 2 patterned papers (Alison Kreft’s chalk art and Crate Paper’s floral pp)
– handwriting
– staples
– washi tape

Here is one more example where I used 16 different bits and pieces on a card. It’s going to take extra postage, but it is worth it to me to create happiness and then send it to a friend in the mail!

I think getting 16 elements on a page or card or mini book is a great way to use up so many of the lovely things that come in the Cocoa Daisy kits each month. Even 16 different stamped images could be a fun way to express this challenge! If it is a bit daunting for you, I am giving you one other slant on this Sweet Sixteen challenge. Journaling has always been one of the most important parts of some of my pages and mini books. Last year I wrote a letter to my 16 year old self and posted it on my blog. I have been meaning to turn that letter into a layout. Go ahead and write your own letter to yourself at 16. I found it to be a hard thing to do, and yet I think there are some really great messages in there that I am hoping to pass along to my kids now. So go for it! Either 16 elements on a page or project, or a page to or about your 16 year old self. OR, of you are feeling ultra inspired, combine the two and see what happens. I can’t wait to see your results! Link them up here in this blog post.

You have until Tuesday, April 2nd to post your links to be qualified for the $10 Daisy Boutique coupon, and one winner will be announced on Thursday, April 4th. I hope you all have fun with this Sweet 16 Challenge! {Note: Cocoa Daisy kits are not required to be used on challenges, but they can sure make it fun if you do use them!}
