Capturing Color

I want to share a really cool application for your iPhone, called ColorSchemer. You can use it to create and save your own color palettes and what I think is the most awesome thing is that you can snap a photo of something that you like, for example something you see in a window display, and then extract colors from that photo and save them as a palette. It’s so perfect if you need inspiration for fun color combos to use in your scrapbooking! I totally recommend that you check this out.     Have a lovely, colorful day! Anna  ...

I like to think outside of the box — experimenting with paper, paint, and fabric — always trying to find a way to push my supplies further and see all the possibilities.” Julie has been published in many magazines including Cloth Paper Scissors, Quilting Arts, Creating Keepsakes, Better Homes & Gardens’ Scrapbooks Etc., Memory Makers, Scrapbook Trends, Somerset Memories, Somerset Digital, scrapbooking m.m. One More – October Kit (Farmer’s Market)

One More – October Kit (Farmer’s Market)

Were you one of the lucky ones to get an October kit?? So many gorgeous papers and goodies and the stamps… oh my!!! I always feel a little sad when I have to pack up a kit and get ready to play with the new one So I took the chance, while waiting for my November kit, to create 1 more layout this page is documenting a favourite saying of your 6 year old She says “I DON’T KNOW” often and it makes me smile The other night she got up, after a bad dream, and while we were having a cuddle she said I don’t know and when I asked what she didn’t know she said I don’t know what I don’t know That just made me giggle Which made her giggle and all the next day she would just say it so I would giggle I love the Jillibean corrugated alphas I love that you can be rough as guts and still make them look cool! On this page I added some cream paint to the corrugations Adhered them with paint Doodled around each letter and then distressed each letter Trying to reveal a lighter tone under each layer. Glad I got to play with the October kit because my November kit arrived yesterday and OH MY! You are going to love it! I know I do!...
Pinterest Inspiration!

Pinterest Inspiration!

Hi Everyone, We’re trying out a new kind of inspiration challenge this month. Pinterest is such a huge source for amazingly inspiring images, that we decided to use it as the basis for a challenge. Since I love lettering and typography, I have an entire pin board for graphics and words. Just find an image from my graphics and words pinboard and create a layout based on it. Here are some sample images from the board…   So pretty, right? You can use pattern, color-scheme, lettering style, quote, whatever you feel inspired by. Just create a layout inspired by something you see on the board. I loved the lettering on the “Courage My Love” poster, and the words are from a favorite song of mine. I like to think of those words when I’m discouraged. I also pulled some colors from the posters. Here’s the layout I made. I painted the letters by hand, and tried to make them look like the poster. Anna did a really cool layout for this challenge, too. She was inspired by this quote… She did a layout about drawing… Cool, huh? I love the quote she chose. It’s so true. We’re often held back by our own failure to believe in ourselves. Isn’t her portrait pretty? So that’s your challenge. Go check out the board, then get creating. You have until the 14th of November to complete your entry. I’ll be starting a thread on the message board where you can put your layouts. The winner will receive a $10 gift voucher for the store. Have...

November Sneak Peek

We’re opening the grand old stained glass and wooden paneled door just a crack to show you a sneak peek at our November kit, Bed and Breakfast.  Can you see the heirloom handpieced quilts on the beds? How about the wine basket, filled with goodies? Every side table and buffet is home to a hand crocheted doily or two. You may even spot pillows festooned with vintage buttons on the velvet davenport. Featuring a 6 x 6 template from Crafter’s Workshop, fabric paper from Amy Tangerine, a collection of papers by the likes of Jillibean Soup, Fancy Pants, and Crate, and a vintage-inspired button here or there, we’re certain this little peek into November’s Bed and Breakfast kit will make you want to visit us again and again. October Tales From The Bunker.

October Tales From The Bunker.

Hope most everyone has received their October kit and add-ons by now and are enjoying all the fall inspired goodies. I am happy to say that I am actually taking a few days off and writing this from the state of Wyoming. So glad I got to spend the afternoon with Ronda yesterday. I love that she lives so close to Jeffery and I get to see her often! OK, so on to few of the interesting things that happened at Cocoa Daisy this month. First of all Mom and Dad and I started a new tradition (totally by accident) this month. I had invited them over to have dinner with us and after dinner Mom was going to help me start to get things set up for packing the October kits. This consists of getting all the plastic packaging off the paper and embellishments that go in the kits. You would be surprised at how long this takes. Well my Father asked to help and between the three of us we got it done as Dad says “before Wheel of Fortune came on”. Needless to say it went a lot faster with three sets of hands instead of just one. So my Dad said that as long as I feed him dinner we can do this every month. I think we will! Here is a picture of my hardworking helpers: The new Stamp Subscriptions have been very popular! I particularly love how cute they look when they are all packaged up: I can’t wait for you to see the stamps we have lined for the next couple months!...

Welcome Stephanie Wheeler

Welcome Stephanie Wheeler

Cocoa Daisy warmly welcomes Stephanie Wheeler to the Daisy Designers.  Stephanie was a guest designer at Cocoa Daisy in January and we fell in love with her style.  We are super excited to see her creations starting in November.  Let’s learn a little more about Stephanie through our new questionnaire. 1. What is your most creative time? Definitely at night. As soon as the sun goes down, I can feel the creativity coming on. Before I started designing full time, I could stay up until the wee hours of the morning, just crafting away. Now I’ll settle for what I can fit in before midnight. 2.  What is your top 5 playlist? “This Must Be the Place” – Talking Heads “Electric Feel” – MGMT “Say You Love Me” – Fleetwood Mac “Come Pick Me Up” – Ryan Adams “Breathe Me” – Sia 3.  What’s next on your scrappy life list? I really don’t know…I’m crazy excited to be on a kit DT again. Deadlines really push me creatively and I’m very excited about being part of a community again, too. Here’s hoping I’ll make Cocoa Daisy proud! 4.  What is your favorite retreat?  Probably the crafty retreat I throw in the fall and winter–it’s a great time to hang out with friends, sit by the fire, drink coffee and be creative and inspired. There’s nothing like a weekend away with the girls. 5.  If your life was a movie, what actress would play you?  I love, love, love Sarah Jessica Parker. Although we look nothing alike, I’d like to think she’d play me. Plus, she has smaller feet than...
Challenge ‘LIFE’

Challenge ‘LIFE’

We have launched a new challenge this morning called ‘LIFE’. We are challenging you to get your life down on paper. You can document a day in your life. A week in your life. Even a year if you wanted. You could document your work day. A special day. Get it down on paper It’s not just about the photos this one, so don’t panic about going around photographing. It’s about looking back one day and seeing a snippet of a day of yours right now. I scrapped a regular week day of mine using the Canned Peaches addon.   A double page LO from Anna.   And one from Denise. We hope this inspires you to play along with us. Please visit this post to upload your LO’s by 26th October – 10pm EST and one lucky winner will be picked and will receive a $10 voucher to spend, which is perfect timing before reveal night.  ...
Some gallery love

Some gallery love

I love our gallery at Cocoa Daisy.  We are a talented group of women!  Here’s what I spotted in the gallery over the weekend.  Just had to share. Peg created this gorgeous layout with the September’s kit.  The background is so interesting and I love how she blended everything together.  She even added a Cocoa Daisy tag! Then there was this layout by Nicky.  Good golly this is cute.  Look at that picture.  So funny what she did with the Halloween lunch and what a great story to capture to remember. Keep it coming...
October Gallery Lift

October Gallery Lift

What a beautiful autum this is so far- at least here in Germany- we have so much sun and the days are warm but at night you already know it is fall. I hope you have an as wonderful time right now. While browsing through the gallery I found this amazing layout by our member Marja. She has such  a wonderful style. I loved how she used the tissue paper and all the cluster on the right uper corner. So I wanted to copy this with the wonderful Farmer’s Market kit and here is what I did : I simply used the tissue paper in which our kit was wrappend and pressed it into some gel medium I had applied to the background. And here is  the amazing Alissa Take on the gallery lift- sooo beautiful – I love her style!!!: Have an amazing day...

October Guest Designer Lisa Kisch

(Photo Credit: h2ophotography.ca) Cocoa Daisy warmly welcomes Lisa Kisch as our guest designer for October.  We spotted Lisa in our design team call and knew we would had to have her for a guest designer.  She has a great simple yet elegant style that fit perfectly with this warm kit.  We asked Lisa a few questions to get to know her better: 1.  What is your most creative time? It varies– sometimes it’s in the morning right after breakfast– heading upstairs with the kids, setting them up with some scraps so I can actually get something accomplished! Other times it’s in the evening after the kids go to bed– the house is quiet, and the dog sits at my feet while I work. 2.  What is your top 5 playlist? I almost never scrap to music! I do love “Glee-kast” on Accu-radio, though. It’s a free on-line radio station/app that play only music from “Glee”. 3.  What’s next on your scrappy life list? Getting my scraproom under control. It’s the last place to get tidied, and you can barely walk in there at the moment. I often have scrap nights at my house where I put out product for my friends to use– that helps clear some older stuff out, to make room for the new! 4.  What is your favorite retreat? A long, hot shower. The environmentalist in me is mortified by the hot water wasted, but it feels SO good. 5.  If your life was a movie, what actress would play you? If we’re going by who looks like me, I sometimes get Katie Holmes or Ashley...

October Sketch

Here is my layout that I based my sketch around…   and here is my (very artistically hand drawn) sketch. And Denise’s awesome take on it.
