ABC of my Family

Hi, it’s Lisa here today.

I would like to show you my latest mini book that I’ve made using the September kit.

I just loved the little October Afternoon Alphabet Cards that were part of an Addon. With each letter of the alphabet on each card, they were crying out to be made into a mini book.

Each page has been cut using A4 ivory card. I measured and cut each page 20cm x 10cm and then used a corner punch to round off the outer corners. I used some of the patterened paper from the kit for the front cover.

I’m one for using as much of my stash as I can. So to create the background of my pages, I’ve taken the JilliBean alphas from the main kit, pushing each one out and used the negative as a mask. I’ve laid this over each page, 1 at a time and lightly spray misted over. These are then left to dry.

I’m a firm believer, when it comes to mini books, I need to keep it simple. If it gets too complicated for me or takes too long, I end up loosing interest. So I’ve kept the same design throughout the whole book. Each page was spray misted. A border punch has been used on strips of papers from the kit. Each page has one of the alphabet cards and 1 8x8cm photo. That’s it!

Once the pages were completed, I’ve attached them together with a book ring.

I just love it when a mini book comes together so quickly : )

Thanks for reading.

October Cocoa Daisy sneaks

Are you ready for this kit? I don’t know, it’s pretty amazing! Filled with texture and beautiful papers, it’s such a treat for the senses. And the add-ons? Just wait, there is a tool that is a must have, I’ve used it on both my pages so far. Be on the look out for more sneaks from the Design team. Happy Friday to you!

Getting inspired… and challenged…!

By:      comments (1)

I am a simple scrapper. Most of the time my layouts are pretty simple, sometimes they are very simple and sometimes they are a little more experimental. But still sort of simple. Sometimes I’m trying to do something else. Put more stuff on my pages. Creating many layers. Adding even more decorations. But I find it oh so difficult!

I decided to challenge myself. And as an inspiration I was looking through the work of the fabulous Michelle Clement. I bet you all know her. She designed the gorgeous Mix and Mend collection for Sassafras. She has a very inspiring blog. She is aaaaaamazing with layers!

So, pulling out my September kit I decided to try to do something completely different from most of my layouts. I didn’t choose one single layout to scraplift, but I was looking around at Michelle’s work and took inspiration from here and there… from the way she uses paint, the way she uses the sewing machine, the way she is hand stitching on her layouts and of course from the way she is layering. Even if I still only managed to reach about half of the layers Michelle is using …  =) I had so much fun and i created something very different from most of my layouts.

Thank you so much for the inspiration, Michelle…!

This exercise – trying to do something very different from what you normally do – is a great way of breaking free from your old habits. To get some help with the inspiration by looking at someone elses work is a fab way to learn new things and to get the extra push needed to try a different approach.

If you’re normally a busy scrapper – try to do something very simple with loads of white space and only a limited number of decorations. And if you’re a simple scrapper like me, pull out your stuff and try to keep adding beyond what you thought was possible!

I think I need to go do some more layering now… See you!

Scrap your index sheets..!

When you send your photos in to your favorite photo developers, they sometimes send you this fun index sheet with mini photos of what you’ve sent in. What do you do with these? Why not scrap them?

Using my September Kit, I’ve created this fun layout with my photo index sheets.

Don’t fear if your index sheets have stuff written over it (or watermarks from the company). Just go ahead and use them!

This layout documents the importance of my photos to me (I’m sure you feel the same way about your photos, right?). Top it off with layering, misting, masking and more layering – and some paint on my Jillybean alphas.. and we’re done.. I love the corrugated alphas because once you’ve used up all your letters, the 12×12 sheet becomes a template for more letters.. (and that’s how I got those outlines in this layout for my title!). Isn’t that so easy?

Check out the rest of my gallery for September here and have a lovely day!!
