If you ever think one person can’t change the world

Then read about Betty Tisdale and her babylift from Saigon.   What an inspiration!

And another inspiration — all those who have already donated to our fundraiser for Linda!  We’ve only been up for 24 hours, have just barely got the word out and already scrapbookers have donated over $1300!   THANK YOU!!!!  I’ve been emailing back and forth with Linda and she is in complete awe of everyone’s generosity.  I feel so fortunate to be part of such an incredible, involved community!

And in case you missed it, Maya Road has sweetened the pot for us!  Caroline Lau contacted me today and has offered 2 $100 gift certificates as part of the fundraiser for Linda!  THANK YOU MAYA ROAD!!!

Have a great weekend everyone and I’ll give you a donation update on Monday.

Thanks again!!!

Want to go to Greece for FREE? Find out how!

By:      comments (73)

One day you’re on the top of the world; your life is going just as you had always hoped.  You have a great family, a loving husband, an adorable son and now the second child you had always hoped for.  On top of that, you are a seriously talented scrapbooker, take a mean photo and have an incredible knack for leaving your friends in hysterics.

That was Linda Burnasakorn’s life.  Then one day she woke up with what she thought was the flu.  In the blink of an eye she was in the ICU fighting for her life.  Over the next several months she fought to overcome pneumonia, collapsed lungs, multiple infections, internal bleeding, organs on the verge of shutting down, blood clots and so much more.

Despite all the challenges and setbacks, Linda made it through!

But, as a consequence of her illness and extremely low blood pressure, her doctors needed to amputate both of Linda’s feet and all of her fingers.    Linda has been such an inspiration to all who know her (and many that don’t) throughout her ordeal.  Within weeks of losing her legs she was up and walking on her own, with the aid of prosthetics.  Linda’s last hand surgery was in January and she is already out driving, cooking, doing laundry and even tying shoelaces!

Linda still has much more to overcome.  There are the medical bills from 6 and a half months in intensive care and rehab.  She will need additional prosthetic legs and insurance coverage is limited.  And Linda and her family need to sell their current home.  It is located on the second floor in a building without an elevator.  A situation that isn’t conducive to Linda’s new circumstances.

And this is where we hope you come in!  Linda’s story could be anyone’s story. There was no rhyme or reason to why this happened to her.  I’m sure that every one of us would hope that if we were to find ourselves in a similar situation the scrapbook community would rally around us.   We want to bring this community together to help support this incredibly brave, inspirational and phenomenal woman.  And, in turn, to thank you for helping out we are offering some unbelieveable prizes!

You could be the lucky winner of a Cocoa Daisy Destinations event in Greece with Ali Edwards, Karen Russell and Jenni Bowlin worth $3000!  Or any of the generously donated prizes listed below!!  *** I’ve heard from quite a few people wondering if there are still spots available for the event and yes, there are.  you can find more information about the event here.

To be entered to win all you need to do is make a donation through www.paypal.com to LindaB@cocoadaisy.com to be entered to win.  One ticket is $10 and you’ll receive an extra ticket for every $50 donated (separate donations cannot be aggregated).   The fundraiser runs from today, April 29th through May 22, 2010.  Winners will be announced on May 26th.

Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity to help a fellow scrapbooker in need and the chance to find yourself enjoying the beaches of Mykonos with some of your favorite scrapbook celebrities!

A huge thank you goes out to all of our very generous sponsors!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at mailbox@cocoadaisy.com.

Inspiration to creation.

By:      comments (1)

I am always on the look out for inspiration, sometimes I will see something that will trigger an idea and sometimes I will find something that can be “copied” onto a scrapbook page. That is where the idea for this layout came from. I bought a card for a friend and loved the design so much I made a photocopy of it for my sketch book before I mailed it to her.

As you can see the design transferred perfectly into a 12×12 layout, I was even able to incorporate the leaf design!

I know you have heard many times to keep your eyes open for inspiration wherever you go but sometimes that is easier said then done, so I have a little trick I use when I am in the mood to “be inspired”. I look at everything in the context of shapes, when you reduce things down to squares, rectangles and circles (which is basically what our layouts are composed of) you will begin to see bits of composition and layout designs in a lot of everyday places. Let’s go back to my card inspiration again, when you look at it you see two rectangles -the photo and the long green block in the background, you also see the leaf design -which to me shows up in a circle shape. A circle accent in the same spot as the leaf accent would look great! You can also take this basic card and it’s “shapes” and flip it horizontally and have another great design. So practice looking around you and seeing things in shape format, you will be amazed how inspiring it can be!

Hope this helps you to find inspiration in your world today!

The Compass Add-On

By:      comments (3)

One of my favourite Add-ons for April is this one, called Compass. The colors, embellishments and tools in this one are just so fun and easy to use to make a great layout!

I squealed at the chance to play with this one and here’s what I did.

First, I painted the Donna Downey Stamp with some lovely Willow Color from the Adirondack Dabbers.

Then, stamp it like you would a normal stamp. But, you have to gently massage the stamp down so that it gets ‘stamped’ on to the cardstock – it is quite a large stamp so just lightly pressing will not be enough to get your image to fully stamp.

This is my image after stamping. Notice how the ridges from the uneven paint shows? I quite like that textured effect. It definitely makes the piece more ‘real’. Let it dry.

Use a thicker marker to outline parts of the image. I’ve used a Chocolate color to bring out the green on the Kraft cardstock. I didn’t outline the WHOLE image, but more just some parts. To give a dimensional effect.

Then embellish as you like. I added my photos, and the fun text ‘dreams’ from the chipboard set. Using the Pink Paislee brads, I attached them inside the Webster Pages flowers to make it stand out a bit more. I later added some pearls to the flowers and under the word ‘dreams’.

I also played with some of the glitter chipboard (also in that AC pack) and added some more ‘flowers’ to the flower branched that I stamped earlier. The pearls are a great effect for the centre of the flowers!

The butterfly from Prima in this add-on comes with a fun clip that you can attach easily to a ribbon. Secure with a glue dot, just in case :) .

I painted the edges of the Kraft cardstock and finished up my journaling, which I styled into two columns. Voila! All done. Easy, and so much fun to make.

Have fun and don’t forget to show us what YOU do with your Compass Add-on for April!! Check out the rest of the April kit here.

xoxo,
