April Guest Designer — Lucy Edson

Hi, it seems like I have been crafty most of my life and started scrapbooking after becoming a mom and watching my photos pile up. I wanted to incorporate my photos into my artwork – I had been doing mixed media for about 5 years and have sewn and dabbled with stained glass, painting and quilting for years, and scrapbooking was a natural progression. I immediately fell in love with scrapbooking and combining techniques from other crafts.

I have been married for 14 years to a wonderfully supportive husband, Mark and we have a 4 year old daughter, Emma, who provides so much inspiration for my artwork. We live in a small town in north Florida and enjoy going to the beach and rivers.

This hobby has certainly changed my life more than I ever imagined. The wonderful friendships and sharing community have presented many great opportunities and I’ve been able to design and share my love for being creative. I’m currently designing for Webster’s Pages and Shimmerz Paints and have been fortunate to be a frequent contributor to Somerset publications with my artwork and tutorials. I can’t wait to see what the future holds! You can follow my work on my blog: http://lucyscraftylife.blogspot.  Thanks to Cocoa Daisy for welcoming me this month as a guest designer!

If you are like Lucy and use lots of layering effects on your pages, you may want to bring in addtional embellishments to use on your page.  You might find that if you look back on previous kits, you’ll find bits and pieces that will suppliment your main kit.  This is not only a great money saving time but also helps to put to good use leftovers in your stash!

Here’s what her “Photographer” layout looks like after she’s done just that!

Inspiration from a catalogue

By:      comments (4)

It is not only the obviously beautiful that gives me inspiration. I definately didn’t think of the cover of this catalogue as a source of inspiration for my scrapbooking when I first got it in my hands. But as it was laying on my desk for a while I suddenly looked at it with different eyes, and I noticed that the design was interesting and could be transferred into a scrapbook layout.

I created three blocks with some spacing inbetween and placed my titel inbetween two of them. I placed my journaling spot where the catalogue has a green rectangle. At first I tried using only the red ribbon instead of the yellow field below the flower, but I then added some of the green paper for some repetition from the block at the top of the page. The color of the journaling spot is also repeated, in the lower block of patterned paper, and I used red thread when sewing above the journaling. The repetition of the colors ties the blocks together, even though they are separated.

I had a lot of fun creating this layout and I hope you’ll have a good time searching for new sources of inspiration around you…!

Made with Love mini album

By:      comments (3)

I loved the I dream of Jeanie March add-on.  I thought that the Jenni Bowlin Bingo alpha would make an adorable mini album.  I want to show you first how i made the cover and then what i did with interior pages.  This mini is just about things i make with my hands for my family, friends, and myself.  It ranges from sewing items to baked goods.

The first thing i did was paint a little on the background.  I used a little cream paint and placed it randomly on the alphabet.

After roughing up the edges with a distress, i spritzed a little spray ink onto the background.  Next i flicked a little orange paint to create the splats.

To make the flower, place liquid glue in a circle with the crepe paper kind of smooshed on top.  Add more glue as needed.

sketch out the stem of the flower and then punch wholes using either a paper piercer or push pin for the stitches.  Erase your pencil marks and then stitch using your favorite green floss.

I wanted the interior pages to peek out the sides so i decided to pink the edges at different widths.

A new car on the horizon

Hard to believe that my husband is actually going to part with his 16 year old Mazda 626

Basically it’s that with a few more scratches and dings.

Today we are off to Portland to pick up his new Subaru Outback.  I am so excited that we’ll no longer have manual transmission!  I’m also amazed that my frugal husband actually went for a new car!

And… on the scrapbook front.  We received a huge GORGEOUS shipment from Pink Paislee yesterday.  I wonder what could be in all those boxes!  Hmmmm……

Hope you are having a good week!
