I hope that everyone’s new year and new decade is off to a great start!
Peace, happiness and health to you and yours in the 2010!
Our day start with an end — an end to the Christmas decorations. I love putting the Christmas decorations up but I think even more I love the catharsis of taking them down again and reclaiming my house. Somehow it seems that with the Christmas decorations comes a certain level of clutter that I just don’t deal all that well with. When the decorations go back into their little boxes and back into the back of their closet, I regain a bit of control over the house once again. The play room catharsis did not happen today as I had hoped. We’ll need to wait a few days for a new beginning for that room. But, I loved the idea of a bright beginning to the year for my house on what was otherwise a very, very wet and gloomy day!
As for New Year Resolutions, one that I would like to keep is posting more regularly to the blog. And keeping with that aim, I definitely needed an entry for today. And, keeping with my “out with the Christmas and in with the New Year” theme, I thought I’d post our Christmas card and the kids’ photo with Santa. Then, I will be done with Christmas!
I was so happy with the way our cards turned out this year! And it was a very happy surprise to receive an email from an old friend telling me that our photo had won her annual contest with local friends for the cutest family photo of the year! Thanks Annie!
Thanks Danielle for taking the best family photos we’ve ever had — you are amazing! And thanks Tiny Prints for being so user-friendly and creating such a high quality product! Unfortunately, the scanned version doesn’t look nearly as good as the “live” version…

I took Jack and Alice to Portland to sit on Santa’s lap. They were dressed in the cutest little outfits and were going to be darling in the photo. That is, until we encountered the Santa line! We waited in it for about 20 minutes moving approximately 5 of the 200 feet we needed to travel to get to Santa. I gave up. The kids spent the night with their old babysitter and the next day when I came to get them, we gave it another go at a different mall. Fortunately, this time there was just one family in front of us but the kids weren’t dressed nearly as cutely as they had been the night before. I just wanted to explain that I had not intended for the kids to be wearing sweatshirts to see Santa; I had intended a smocked dress, a big bow and a nice sweater. But… I did get my photo! The best part of the evening was when Santa said to Alice, “Please don’t put your hand there!” Hmmm… perhaps that’s why you shouldn’t encourage your little girls to sit on strange men’s laps!
Happy New Year!
