December Guest Designer: Lisa Trusdell

lisaheadshot

Lisa Truesdell lives in Omaha, NE, in a midtown neighborhood filled with big trees and old houses. When her mother started scrapbooking, Lisa was surprised to see how far the hobby had come, and quickly fell in love with a craft that allowed her to experiment with color & patterns, words and photographs. She’s now been scrapbooking for 5 years and her pages are detailed and whimsical. She loves to mix and layer bits of patterned paper with lots of sewing. Lisa finds inspiration in quilt patterns and decor magazines, and loves to record the small moments in her family’s life that would otherwise be forgotten.

Lisa has been married to Matthew for 12 years and is a stay-at-home mom to their three boys – Alex, Ben and Sam. When she’s not making pages or chasing her boys, she is slowly teaching herself to use her sewing machine on fabric. She also subscribes to too many magazines and is useless from the moment she starts a new book until she finishes it.

Lisa was a Creating Keepsakes Honorable Mention winner in 2006, and has had her work published in BHG Scrapbooks Etc, Creating Keepsakes, Simple Scrapbooks, Scrapbook Trends and Cards Magazine. She is currently designs for Fiskars and Studio Calico.

Folded envelopes

By:      comments (1)

I recently learned from a Swedish gardening magazine how to fold cute envelopes to hold seeds that you collect. It was said in the article that Carl von Linné himself (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Linnaeus)  folded envelopes like these once upon a time. I don’t know if that is true, but they sure are cute.

Maybe you collect seeds from your own garden, or maybe you know someone who would appreciate a gift that is able to grow into something beautiful, wrapped up in a cute envelope? Or perhaps you can think of something else to be held by one of these little envelopes?

It’s really simple to fold an envelope and you don’t need any adhesive to keep it closed.

Start out with a piece of patterned paper. The exact size is not important, but mine were about 12 x 17 cm. Fold the piece over, leaving an edge that is approximately 1 cm.

one vers2 stroke

Fold the edge over once and then fold again, approximately 1 cm again.

two

three vers3 stroke

Flip the piece of paper over, making sure your folded edge is facing the table. Then fold one of the corners, like in the image below.

four stroke

To close the envelope, fold again, slipping the nib in under your folded edge.

five

Embellish as desired and make the same fold at the other end of the envelope to close it once you’ve filled it.

Have a great week…!

La Vie en Rose

By:      comments (5)

Do we have a gorgeous kit coming your way in December!  La Vie en Rose has a touch of elegance, a hint of vintage, a sparkle here and there and the feel of a Parisien market.   Later this week I’ll share the fun little mini album I created using the kit!

And look what Kim and Ronda designed for this kit!  How perfect is this stamp?  It is 3″ x 2.5″.

And I’m in love with these vintagey journaling cards Ronda created, some from images found on The Graphics Fairy.

A week of Thanksgiving

By:      comments (1)

Started with a preschool Thanksgiving feast with Pilgrim Alice

Piligrim Alice

This Pilgrim’s mom went out with a full memory card so this is about the best she could do.  Fortunately she figured that out before heading to Piligrim Jack’s play this afternoon!  On my way there.

Today I am thankful that my little pilgrims are FINALLY both health and back in school!
