Mid-Month Challenge

By:      comments (3)

Hi everyone, Aida here. This mid-month challenge is late, I can offer no excuses aside from a lapse in checking the schedule. I am sorry but here it is and I hope you will join me in documenting a moment in your day.

What is your favorite time of the day ? For some it’s the morning quiet, or the waking up to to hugs and kisses from the kiddos, the time to yourself to get chores and some scrapping done. For this challenge I would like you to scrap your favorite hour of the day and why, use the time as your title.

The title of my layout is 4:00pm, it is the favorite time in the day when the stress of ploughing through the planned tasks is almost done, everything (or most !) on my list is finished and the family would be winding down for the evening meal where we can catch up on each of our news. I’ve used mostly the July Rhubarb Pie Kit and the bright, happy feel of American Craft’s Craft Fair line is a reflection of how I feel.

July MMC 4.00pm

I can’t wait to see what you Daisies do ! It will be fun to take a peek into your lives and thanks for playing ! Cheers, Aida.

Another peek and Design Team call extension

Here’s another peek at something special in the August kit.  The kit will include a pack of 4 exclusive journaling cards designed by Kim Watson and manufactured for us by Fontwerks.  I love them!

Look for more sneak peeks to come!

I also wanted to announce that we have decided to extend the Design Team Call.  Originally the call was to end today however, with CHA coming up, and the summer travelling for many of the DT, the earlier deadline was conflicting with many schedules here.   In the end, to take pressure off members of the design team we have decided to extend the submission deadline to August 5th.   The later date allows us to consider the applications after CHA and in turn we are keeping the deadline open for submissions.

Have a great Monday!

…and one more.

Ever since the grid design challenge last month I have wanted to do a layout with a circle grid and this picture of the boys dancing in the rain seemed the perfect, playful, photo to use! Ironically while working on this layout I looked up on my inspiration wall and saw this quote: “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain.”  which is exactly what they are doing! I love when we “stumble” across inspiration like that! The bright fun colors of the July kit worked just perfect for this layout too. I like how it turned out, kind of loose yet structured at the same time.

The red thickers are from my own stash and I used foam stamps to create the green stamped word “dance” in the background. Thanks for stopping by the Diva blog and have a great week!

Interview with July Guest Designer: Amy Tan

By:      comments (1)

We loved having Amy as a Guest Designer for July. Amy took some time off her busy schedule to answer some questions for our readers!

Name and age?
Amy Tan, 30

Where do you live?
Venice Beach, CA.

What are your passions?
I love life, living it, savoring it and remembering it. I love traveling and experiencing as many happy moments as possible. I believe in working hard and playing hard. As a true Libra, I try and achieve balance in all aspects of my life.

When did you start scrapbooking?
I started scrapbooking in 2007 after taking a class and becoming friends with Emily Falconbridge.

Do you make cards?
I do love making cards, but don’t usually take photos of them before giving them away. I sometimes get lazy and just purchase cute cards because I am addicted to spending money on unique hand crafted goods.

Favourite scrapping size?
I LOVE 8.5″ X 12″ but mostly scrap 12″ X 12″. I am not quite sure why I do that?

How do you store your layouts?
I used to pile them up high so that I could organize them chronologically later, but I moved recently and wanted to get them into sleeves and albums. I am getting better about putting them in a protected and proper place.

What camera and lenses do you use?
Nikon D40, and just the lens that it came with. I am considering an upgrade, so I can give my D40 to my cousin. I also have a fun FUJI Instax that prints out instant credit card sized prints.

Tell us about your ‘day job’?
I run my own business, Amy Tangerine, which is going through some exciting changes at the moment. I’ve had the tee shirt line for over 7 years, and now it’s moving towards a more diverse creative consulting company. I try and keep work interesting and creatively challenging while remaining enjoyable. I enjoy teaching classes and also scrapbooking for others.

Do you seek balance in your life?
Constantly.

How do you organize your days and fit in scrapping and your busy, thriving company?
Making time for the things I enjoy are a must. It helps fuel my creative energy and prevents burn out. There was a time when I was working from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed. I am grateful for that experience, but am also realizing that time just flies and time is far more valuable than money. So I try and enjoy everything I do, and my life has felt extremely fulfilling thus far.

Where do you find inspiration? Inspiration for me if found in the everyday. Little things, big things, nature, quotes, anything that is aesthetically pleasing. I love the blog- Oh Joy! and am inspired by the book, “How to be Lovely”. My father’s positive and laid back attitude and my mom’s work ethic has inspired me as well.

What would you like to achieve in life & scrapping?
I hope to continue to make happy memories and inspire others to do so as well. I would love to start a non-profit where crafts are brought to hospitals and nursing homes. Living a fulfilled life and scrapbooking it along the way makes me a happy girl.

Where do you see yourself in the future?
Hopefully my future holds more goodness, a wonderful husband, and some babies, living a simple, loving and joyful life full of fun adventures.

Any messages to your fans?
My favorite quote: “The secret to life is knowing how to make the bad times good and the good times unforgettable.”

Look forward to Amy’s offering of a Daily Prompt for our message boards later this month!!

A bit of randomness…

By:      comments (7)

Please don’t forget, if you are planning on putting in a submission for the design team the deadline is the 20th.  It amazes me each time we do a design team call the incredibly talented women that that go for it.  I admire each and every person that has the tenacity and perseverance to go after what they want in this industry.  Personally I feel just having the fortitude to put yourself out there makes you a winner!   Nike was definitely onto something big with their “just do it” ad campaign!

If you are interested you can find more information on the Daisy Diva call here.

What are you doing today?  I’m working away for a couple hours at a coffee shop before picking up the kids.  We are going to meet up with a friend for lunch and a playdate.  That’s definitely one great advantage of working for yourself — setting your own schedule.  I’ll be up working late tonight but it’s worth it get some time with the kids on a gorgeous summer day!

The emails from manufacturers have been rolling in with peeks at their new product.  For a down market, there are some really gorgeous new products that will make a debut at CHA.   The last few emails included ones from Cosmo Cricket and from Crate Paper and I love what both of these companies have coming out!

Are you wondering about the August kit?  We are all so excited about the coming month’s kit!!!  It will include papers from American Crafts brand new as yet unreleased Blue Skies line as well as papers from My Mind’s Eye spanking new Abbey Road line!  And, one of the best things is that we are going to be one of the very first to be able to bring you these papers!!!

And here’s another little peek for you today.  Each kit will include an entire package of the beautiful Fabulous Deluxe Brads from Chatterbox!

Love those!  That’s it for now; off to pick up a couple little towheads!
