This and that for a Tuesday (and $30 tickets to Europe)

Just some random thoughts for today…

If anyone is interested in doing a 8 week to fitness challenge, visit Paula Wessell’s blog for the Commit 2 Fit Challenge.  I’m hoping it will be just want I need to finally get myself back in gear!

If you don’t have teens do you ever bother to flip through the PotteryBarn Teen catalog?   Mine usually goes straight into the recycling bin, but this time I actually took a gander at it.  I was shocked at how many great products there were!  Maybe I’m just a teen at heart but I recommend giving it a glance.

This is what I’d really love from the catalog; I think it would be great in my workspace although I wouldn’t really need a mirror here!

One day while blog hopping I ended up over at Emilie Ahern’s.   I discovered this post about Aleida Franklin and her ideas on taking regular photos of yourself with your child.   If you are unfamiliar with Aleida she was a wonderful woman who was very active on in the online scrap world and was tragically killed in a car accident last fall.  Aleida had been a subscriber with us and I had gotten to know her all too briefly through emails.  It would be wonderful to see a legacy live on from Aleida.

I realized, I’m NEVER in the photos — maybe Scott is, but generally it’s as if they are two little orphans running around with very well documented lives.  So that night after reading Emilie’s blog post, I got out the camera and was going to take photos of each of us with the kids.  The kids had different ideas and took over as the cameraman (or woman).  Voila!  Scott and I now exist, the kids had a blast and we had a memorable moment.  So, if you haven’t inserted yourself into a photo with your kids lately, why don’t you make an opportunity to do so?

This one was curtesy of Alice:

And this was Jack’s effort.

Thanks kids!

Last Friday was Scott’s birthday.  So there was a flourless chocolate torte,

lots of chocolate all over Alice — she’s my messy one,

and one happy boy waiting on his chocolate cake!

And finally, thought this was pretty cool.

STA Travel is offering a limited number of $30 tickets to London or Paris (from NYC, Boston, San Fran, D.C., LA or Seattle)!!!!!  WOW!!!  That price includes all taxes and fees.

Here’s the lowdown — the tickets go on sale tomorrow at noon Central time and are available to full-time registered students (over 13), anyone under the age of 26 or any teacher.  Tickets can be booked by visiting an STA Travel branch or by calling 1-800-360-9273.  They are not available online.  Makes me really want to be under 26 again!!   I gleaned this information from the Wall St Journal so it is legit.  If you decide to go for it — good luck!!!

How do you store your inspiration?

Hi everybody!  Emily S. here!

Okay so I’m here to admit…I’m a catalog junkie.  I LOVE catalogs. I get SOOO many.  I kill a lot of trees. Oops.  I can’t tell you how many times a week my husband shakes his head at me when I yell at him for throwing away my catalogs…even if it is the 517th Pottery Barn one. ;)

A couple years ago I came up with a good system for organizing all the things that I love in catalogs.  In order to save space (and probably save my marriage!) I have created a number of “inspiration” books.  I get blank books from Borders and fill them with all the things I love from the catalogs.  There is really no rhyme or reason to it, other than it all fits on the page, and I love it all!!  I suppose if I were a more studious person I could make a book for home things, a book for clothing, a book for kids stuff, etc.  But for now they all live together in harmony. ;)   Here are some pages from one of my books.

I’d love to hear if you do anything similar! :)
