Flowers, Toys & Rain

Sigh… yet another rainy day although this weekend is supposed to be amazing with temperatures in the 80s!

But, with all the rain I still haven’t been able to get decent photos of the toy room.  I finally caved yesterday (the sun did come out but it was on the wrong side of the house by that time) and decided to go for at least one regardless of lighting.

The table, chairs, picture frames and light are all from Ikea.  The cabinets in the center are from Pottery Barn Kids as are the baskets.  The two outer bookshelves are from Target (not sure if they still sell those).  And, the kitchen set is from Costco.  The mirror is an old frame my inlaws refurnished and put the mirror in and the picture to the left was a gift.  The paint color is Cream by Devine (LOVE their paint!!!).  I’ve painted many different yellows and this is the most perfect yellow I have found — very true.

The sun is supposedly going to be going to be out tomorrow and I’ll try to take some more shots.  I’m trying to decide which room I should spruce up next.  And suggestions?  Maybe next time I’ll remember to do before photos!!!

I wanted to let you in on a little secret courtesy of our fabulous Ronda!  She loves creating beautiful, unique fabric flowers for scrapbooking.  We included her felt flowers in one of the March add-ons from 2008 and she is at it again!  This time she created these beautiful chenile flowers just for us at Cocoa Daisy.

And not only is Ronda incredibly talented she’s also amazingly generous so… she asked that we add these flowers to some of our May kits!  We randomly include flowers in 60 kits so if your kit included some and you were wondering why they weren’t on the kit contents list, it’s because you received a lovely little extra!

Thanks Ronda!!!

Here’s one of the layouts Ronda created with the May Kit, Strawberry Lemonade using a flower:

If you were one of the lucky ones — I hope you have fun creating with them!  And… if you weren’t — don’t worry!  We’ll do something like this again very soon!

Heidi Swapp Journal Fun

Hi Daises

I just loved this Heidi Swapp Journal from the May Add-ons.  The interior has pages ready to go but you can decide how to arrange them.  I wasn’t sure what I wanted to use it for and then lexi (my DD) said “you know you want to give it to me.”  She is visiting some friends this summer, so I decided to that…make her a summer journal.  I want to show you how I started the layering process on this journal.  I had lots of fun with Gesso & Molding paste.

First I taped off the side using regular masking tape.  Then I applied athin layer of gesso.

Next I took a plastic palette knife and starting applying heavy molding paste.  I wanted the front to have fun textures so I just kept layering & “swiping” the paste in random pattern.

I added a piece of the SEI lace paper and then lightly coated in the molding paste.  I wanted it to still be visible but have some texture as well.

You know me & layers.  I just kept adding little bits of layers until I got the texture I wanted.  Here I am squishing the paste into a ribbon and then carefully lifted it off to get those little dots.

Perfectly imperfect!

For the title, I took the negatives of the alphabet from the March kit and used it to create these letters.  I used the same technique as above.  I was originally just using the black piece in the P as a place holder but I like it so much in there I just left it.  Let your piece dry completely, overnight if you can.

Add paint, paper, & other embellishments.  I wish you could hold this little journal because it has such a cool texture.  You can paint it heavily or light, the possibilities are endless.  And now here are some peeks at the interior page dividers:

I also added some molding paste to one of the dividers.  Just have fun & play around with it.

Lots of Love,
