Is April really over?

Isn’t it funny how you can anticipate something for so long and then in a heartbeat, not only has it come, but it has gone.  That was my 40th birthday.  For the last year I’ve dreaded it.  I’ve wanted to hold tight to my 30′s and did all I could to avoid the idea of the new “F” word coming into my life.  I counted down the final days, appreciating my last days with an age that started with “3″.  And, in the end, it just wasn’t a big deal.

What was a big deal was that I married an amazing man.  He is generous, loving, kind, supportive, nurturing  person who does all he can to make Jack, Alice and me happy.  And that’s precisely what he did for my birthday — an evening of happiness.

Scott threw an absolutely amazing surprise party for me!!!  Yep, I was surprised.  Althought Scott always has the best of intentions when it comes to gifts, some times those intentions just haven’t translated very well.  In the past those intentions have resulted in such presents as a coffee grinder (when I wasn’t even drinking coffee), a bread knife, a cutting board, sock/moccasin slippers, a tool kit and those were just some of the “romantic” gifts I received while dating!  Things were so quiet  during the days prior to my birthday that I felt for sure he had very little planned and it would end up being a night with a quiet dinner, a last minute Safeway cake and a rather utilitarian gift.  I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Scott had thought of every little detail!  He sent out beautiful invitations, rented out one of our favorite restaurants, set up a projector with pictures of me throughout my life (ok, there were quite a few he could have left out!), and reached out to the right people to make sure the evening was a success.  It was!  He has now set the bar very high for the husbands of friends that will soon be reaching milestone birthdays — sorry guys!

Scott succeeded in making a dreaded day incredibly fun!  The only sad thing was that he had asked a friend to take photos and no one else brought a camera.  Our friend ended up with 5 photos, none of which was great.   Just too ironic for a scrapbooker’s big party!  But, it’s the memories that count, right?

Here’s what we’ve got:

Right after I walked in the door (no photo of us walking in the door…).

Friends milling around waiting for us to arrive.

And that’s about it on the photos!  It’s the memories that are far more important, right?

And here are a few of the ones that he showed throughout the evening.  And as this post took me about 4 hours to accomplish with this program that just doesn’t seem to want to cooperate with me, that’s it for today!
