Farewell to May and found objects…

Hi Everyone!

Just popping in to share one last layout with the gorgeous May kit. I really loved how bright and sunny it was!

This layout includes a couple images I cut from packaging. I recently ran out of all my perfume at once so I stopped into Bath & Body Works to find a new one. I ended up with two but it’s important to smell good, right? When I buy toiletries I think I’m swayed by the packaging as much as I am by the product. Anyway, the boxes had really pretty embossed images on them and they matched the May kit perfectly. I realized I needed to get the kit out one last time and make something that included my packaging bits. This is what I came up with…

The title should ideally say golden, as our team is called the Golden Girls, but I couldn’t fit it. Oops.

Here’s a close up of the pretty packaging images…

I love the butterfly wing sooo much!

I hope you all have enjoyed playing with May’s kit as much as I have! Thanks for letting me share!

love,

Anja

June Guest Designer: Lisa M. Pace

Lisa M. PaceBeing the guest designer this month feels like coming home. I was thrilled when Tricia asked me to be the guest designer for the month of June. It has been a pleasure to be able to create with all the Daisy Divas and once again be an active member of the incredibly creative family at Cocoa Daisy.

This past year and a half has been quite a whirlwind and I feel Tricia has had a very important part in my scrapbooking successes. I was an active Daisy Diva from October 2006 through March 2008. During this time Tricia gave me the creative freedom I needed to discover my style and perfect my techniques. In May of 2007, I was picked as one of 5 master scrapbookers in Martha Stewart’s scrapbooking contest and in August of 2007, was chosen as a 2008 Memory Makers Master. In January of 2008 I started writing and working on 100 projects for my upcoming book, scheduled for publication in February 2010.

My work has been published in magazines such as Memory Makers, Scrapbooks etc., Better Homes and Gardens Holiday Crafts and Scrapbooking & Cards Today as well as numerous idea books like Holiday Home, Scrapbook Trends, Paper Trends, Simply Handmade, Paper Creations and Scrapbooking & Beyond.

Presently I am the Design Team Coordinator for Maya Road and a Certified Fiskars Demonstrator. I live in Frisco, Texas with my husband, two daughters and three dogs. I love all things vintage and can’t seem to create any type of project without adding a little machine stitching or glitter someplace.

It is time to bid adieu…

To several members of our design team.  Emily Gulka, Emily Spahn and Tara Pollard Pakosta have all decided that due to their busy personal lives, they will be stepping down from the Daisy Divas.  June will be their last month with the team; you’ll have a chance  to check out their last Cocoa Daisy creations in the Divas’ gallery (the June gallery will be available for viewing tomorrow evening).

I hope you will join with me to thank them for all their great work and to let them know that they will be missed here at Cocoa Daisy!  Thanks so much to each of you and I hope you will be back to visit us from time to time!

We enjoy having a large design team to share lots of great designs and to keep things exciting on the message boards.  As such we will be looking to add a few new faces to the Daisy Divas very soon.  Look for more information to follow over the next couple of weeks for a design team call.

More invisibles tips.

The amazingly talented Anna did a tutorial on how to use the Heidi Swapp Invisibles paper that was included in your May kit. I used the paper on a couple of my layouts so I thought I would share a few of my tips too :)

I liked the idea of using masks on the invisibles paper just to give it another layer (plus I love any excuse to use a mask)!

Step 1: The first thing I did was decided where I was going to put my cluster of photos – I did this so that I could cut out the invisibles paper that would be covered up and use it on another layout – I didn’t want to waste a bit of it!! Then I adhered the invisibles paper to a piece of cardstock to make it more sturdy.

step-12

Step 2: Position your mask where you want it  and pick out some ink colors. I used three different ink colors to give the paper lots of dimension. To apply the ink you can use a makeup sponge or one of my new favorite tools -the Tim Holtz Ink Blender Tool

step-22

Step 3: Now the fun part! Load your sponge or blender tool with ink and start swiping it on the paper and over the mask. I found that using a small circular motion while applying the ink to the paper works the best. Makes sure you get the ink all around your mask so that you have a nice crisp line around the design. Just keep adding and blending the different ink colors until you fill the whole paper.

step-32

Step 4: When you are finished inking remove the mask. This is what it will look like.

And the finished layout:

Now some of you may be saying “but I don’t have a mask” to which I would reply “well, make one!” :) Remember that little piece of invisibles that I cut out and wanted to save? Well that is what I played with next.

Step 1: Using a paper punch – I picked a small circle, simply punch out the design from a piece of scrap cardstock.

Step 2: Lay your mask down and blend away. I was pretty random with my “dots”, just make sure to hold the mask down firmly while you blend so that it doesn’t slip. To finish off my design I went back and added a few smaller dots with another mask I created the same way -just with a smaller circle punch. I also used the masks to trace a black outline around each dot.

And the finished layout:

Just think of all the amazing designs you could make by using masks on this resist paper, wether they are pre-made masks or those that you make yourself, the possibilities are endless!! I also love how you can customize the colors on this paper to fit your layout! So much fun! Thanks for letting me share – have a great weekend everyone!
