Finally — office photos!

I finally have the blog software working for me again!  I hope you all had a great weekend– it was gorgeous here and we took full advantag of it.  Saturday Jack had a soccer game followed by a t-ball game (we are in the midst of the cross-over season) and then yesterday we spent all day out in the yard sprucing it up.  Anyone who knows me well knows I am NOT a gardener.  But… when the weather is finally as beautiful as it was today, I think anyone is willing to love gardening even if just for the day, as an excuse to get out and enjoy the day!

I promised photos of my work space and here they are!

office1

This is the wall of cabinets that we put up a few weeks ago.  I’ve since added brushed chrome knobs to the cabinets doors and replaced the white one on the small drawers.  I’m still waiting on the brackets to arrive so I can put in the glass on the middle cabinets.  I’ll take more photos once that is done.

top-of-cabinets

I’ve ordered a vintage bellows camera to go beside the small yellow vintage French lunchbox to the left.  I’m hoping it arrives soon — can’t wait to see how it looks!  The globe, typeset tin and ampersam sign are from Pottery Barn.  The small suitcases are from Paper Source.  The lunchbox was a gift a friend brought back from Paris and the two buckets are curtesy of TJMaxx.  The baskets in the center are from Pottery Barn Kids — they were the only ones that I could find that fit perfectly into the cabinets!  The papers in the frames to the left of the cabinets — the top two are from Jenni Bowlin Studios, and the bottom one, just to let you know how old this paper is, is from Two Busy Moms for whom Ali used to design.

bulletin-board-wall

This wall still needs work.  The bulletin board has been there and the photo, a gift, is a new addition.  I’m trying to figure out what exactly I want to do with the wall before moving the bulletin board and creating more nail holes that will help to drive my husband mad.  What I’d REALLY like to go on this wall are these two bulletin boards from Pottery Barn

 bulletin-boards

And I was just about willing to splurge when I saw they were on sale for $99.  BUT — when I realized it was $99 EACH the credit card went right back in my purse!  I think instead I’ll try to find some cool frames at a garage sale or somewhere and put polka dot tan linen over hermasote and make my own instead.

full-desk

This is my scrapbook desk — love the sides that fold down on it — I can put them up when I need extra room but usually they are down so that the desk doesn’t take up as much space.  It was supposed to be a kitchen table set with stools, but I thought it was perfect for scrapbooking as I like to stand up — also love the two drawers on each side of it.  Half of it was a birthday gift from my mother when Jack was a baby.  Thanks Mom!  And yes, I need something else on the wall there as well.  I am somewhat of a sparten decorator — I had anything that can add to the clutter!

desk

This is how I like to stay semi-organnized when creating.  I put whatever small things I want to use in the wire basket and then they are readily available to use.  Everything you see is either part of the May kit or a May add-on!  One special customer had requested we order the Heidi Swapp Memory Binder and we loved it too!  You’ll see that as an add-on next month.

letter-photo

The framed photo is a blown up scan of a love letter from my grandfather to my grandmother during World War I.  I found this idea in the first issue of Blueprint magazine which is sadly defunct.  I love the idea of sending a letter with just the name, town and state on it and it actually being delivered.  What a concept!

This area is somewhat of a staging spot for incoming boxes so I’ve kept it rather barren.  But looking at these photos made me realize it needs something.  I have something in mind and once I do that, I’ll post an update.

mini-basket

This little basket are some of the mini-albums I’ve created.  Keeping them out like this keeps them easily accessible and I constantly find myself (and the kids!) perusing through them.  Love that!  Think it is time for a bigger basket…

And that about covers the office!  I’ve decided that posting rooms on the blog is really helping me to keep rolling on the projects I’d like to get done in the house.  I intend to post weekly with a different room in the house — if I can keep to that, all the projects should be done in no time!

Next up, the toy room!

I’m hosting my bunko group tonight and I’m so excited that we are actually going to be able to get out on the porch tonight — as the weather is still incredibly beautiful.  And it’s my last day of my 30’s and I intend to make the very most of it!  Happy Monday to all of you!

Positioning computer journaling.

I had a request to show how I get my computer journaling positioned on my 12×12 layouts, so here is my process.

The first step is to get your page all laid out the way you want it (do not glue anything down yet!).step-1

Next using your layout as a guide measure where you want your journaling to fall on the page. Pull up a 12×12 page on your computer program (I use a very old program called Multi-ad Creator but this should work in photoshop too) (I am NOT  a digital scrapbooker so feel free to leave a comment with any other programs you know of ) and transfer your measurements to the page on your computer. You can see where I marked the space off with guide lines. Next I just pick my font and type size and fill in the area with my journaling.
step-2

Now you need to print out a test sheet (I like to use the backs of REALLY old patterned paper for this). You will need a wide format printer to print out the 12″x12″ size but you can do this same process if you scrapbook in an 8 1/2″ x 11″ format and have a standard printer.
step-3

The last step is to lay your test sheet over your layout and make sure the journaling falls where you want it to. Make any adjustments you need to on the computer and when it is exactly how you like it send your original sheet of paper through your printer. That’s it! Just add the rest of your photos, patterned paper and embellishments to your layout and it is all done!
step-4

Hope this helps and if you have any questions just post them in this thread and I will be happy to answer them. Have a great day everyone!

Make Your Own Cardboard Ring Frames

Hi there everyone, I have the coolest thing to share with you, found over at photojojo.

Keen to try something new???

Silver dollars, vinyl LPs, Oreos — So many of the best things in life are circle-shaped. How about giving some of your fave photos the same treatment?? Circularize your photos and show them off in a urban-chic constellation of modular cardboard rings.

Snappy-lookin’, expandable, and keeps a couple of paper towel rolls out of the landfill. We are all for recycling & reusing where ever we can here are Cocoa Daisy. So seriously, what’s not to like?

Are these not just the funkiest photo holders you have ever seen?

What You’ll Need

ingred-sm1

  • An assortment of cardboard tubes: toilet paper rolls, paper towel rolls, shipping tubes, even oatmeal boxes!
  • Sandpaper (optional)
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • X-acto knife
  • A whole bunch o’ photos
  • Scissors or circle cutter
  • White glue

Step 1: Clean Up the Rolls

scrub-smRemove any labels or leftover paper from each of the cardboard rolls.

If the paper doesn’t peel off readily, you can scrub it away with a small piece of sandpaper.

Step 2: Mark Rolls

mark-sm1Now to divide those rolls into rings of varying widths. Make many different sizes so you have a good mix when you put them on the wall.

Using a ruler and pencil to mark the width of each ring will help you keep the cuts straight and level.

Step 3: Cut Tubes Into Rings

cut-smUse the X-acto knife and/or scissors to cut the tubes into many different-sized rings.

Step 4: Trace Circles

trace-smTrace around the ring to mark a circle on the photo you want to frame.

Cut out the circle using scissors (or a circle cutter). The circle should be just a bit wider than the outside of the ring.

Step 5: Glue Photos to Rings

glue-smDraw a thin bead of glue on the rim of the cardboard ring and glue the photo circle in place.

You can glue the photo to the front of the ring so it stands out from the wall, or to the back of the ring so you can peer in at it.

Step 6: Repeat

While the glue dries on the first ring, repeat Steps 4 and 5 with the remaining cardboard rings and photos.

Step 7: Glue Rings Together

assemble-smWhen all the rings are done and dry, use a little white glue on the side of the rings to glue them together.

Arrange them in a circle, a random pattern, or any dang ol’ way you like!

Step 8: Put ‘Em Up

Hang the rings on the wall by putting up a few pushpins or small nails and slipping the rings over them.

More Ideas

  • Use a few different colors of paint to color the inside and/or outside of the cardboard rings before you glue on the photos.
  • Glue the rings together in small groups of three or four so you can easily rearrange your collection.

Many thanks to the team of Photojojo for your creative tips ‘n tricks…you guys ROCK!!
