One of Scott’s friends from work and the cycling world was just killed. Ed, on his bike, and a log truck, coming from opposite directions, were both turning east onto a road. Somehow Ed ended up sliding beneath the log truck. The details are still very sketchy. Ed was pronounced dead at the scene. He leaves behind a wife and four very young children. He was just 48 and this was such a needless tradegy.
Next time you are in the car and see a cyclist, please slow down and give them an extra berth. Every single time Scott goes out for a ride I need to make sure I say to him, “Be safe.” I’m so afraid that one day if I forget it will be he that never walks through the door again. When you are the road please, please give an extra thought to the bicyclists sharing the road with you. If nothing else, hopefully this senseless tragedy might make drivers more aware of cyclists and pedestrians on the road.
Thank you.
