I wanted to share a few ways you could use the stamps that came with the August kit.
This first set of cards was made using the hedgehog stamp, hedgehogs don’t have to be just brown :)

This second set was made with the tree stamp. There are a couple different ways to use the two-step tree stamp. On the “thank you card” I made a mask of the tree trunk by stamping it on a piece of scrap paper and then cutting it out. Next I used removable adhesive and adhered it to white cardstock, then I stamp the leaves over top. Peel up the tree trunk and then stamp the tree trunk in the area left by the mask. This technique will give you nice definition between the trunk and the leaves.
On the “happy birthday to you” card I stamped the tree leaves and tree trunk separately on white cardstock and then cut them each out and layered them together. Just a couple ways to use your stamps!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Door Hanger

Do you also have the problem like me of having scraps that lie around??? Well I never know what to do with them other than making a ton of cards for my ever-patient friends & family. Not so long ago I discovered these cute door hangers… normally they are made from card stock & the likes but I thought using one of my piles of at least a thousand trashed CD’s might be the answer for the base.

Here are the instructions:

1)    Take a pile of coordinating items from your stash of scraps e.g. Lace, ribbon, flowers, decorative brads, alphas & a couple of pieces printed papers etc.

2)    Using a hand drill carefully make a hole in the middle @ the top of the CD for inserting your hang tie.

3)    Find a jumbo sized photograph suitable for trimming down.

4)    Carefully mark the photograph using the CD as a template & trim down to an appropriate size.

5)    I placed the photograph on the right hand side & kept all the decorative layering to the right but you can use whichever side you’d prefer.

6)    Layer bits ‘n bobs together making sure to keep the widest piece at the bottom & the narrowest like the lace at the top.

7)    For a neat finish at the bottom of the hanger, I cut a separate piece of paper & adhered it over all the loose ends of the lace & paper layering. It is onto this piece that the flourish cut from a piece of printed-paper & the layered blooms are stuck.

8)     The finishing touches to your nearly completed project, are alphas loosely

attached to the edge of the inner edge of the photograph & a hand cut

butterfly (I didn’t have a butterfly punch handy so it looks a bit like a fish~haha!)

8)     The ribbon for hanging is inserted into the pre-made hole in the CD & tied at the top with a bow.

9)    On the back I stuck a piece of journaling paper & customized a love note to my little girl.

10)     Voila! finished….a lovely gift for someone special.

Happy creating guys!

One little card

I made this little card that I wanted to show you, using the yummy August kit. I used the Waste Not Paper card as a base and I covered the inside of the card with a piece of the Rouge de Garance lace.

I used small amounts of liquid glue to attach the lace. A good advice is to remember not to apply glue on the part of the lace that will be visible through the cut out hole in the cardstock… Luckily I managed to wipe the excess away before it made any damage. :)

The next thing I did was using my sewing machine, randomly stiching three circles around the opening.

I used the 7gypsies tape to secure the thread and on top of the tape I added a couple of cut out trees from one of the patterened papers in the kit. I finished off by using letter stickers for the message (hej means hi in Swedish) and some fluid chalk around the edges of the card.

August Guest Designer: Katrina Simeck

Katrina SimeckI am a mom, a wife, a friend, a business woman, a coffee addict, a poor housekeeper, a decent cook, and…. a scrapbooker. During the day, I work as a project manager in a cosmetics manufacturing company. At night, you’ll find me holed up on my scrapbook room listening to loud music & playing with paper. Scrapbooking has become a creative retreat in the midst of my chaotic life.

I started scrapbooking shortly after my son was born, focusing on 8.5×11 pages and chronological albums. I quickly became overwhelmed with the notion of getting caught up, and I put down my deco scissors for the next several years. I dusted off my supplies a few years ago, and then decided to jump into the publishing game in 2006. It’s fair to say that I haven’t looked back!

I’ve had a blast working with various publications…I’ve been published in Simple Scrapbooks, Creating Keepsakes, Cards Magazine, BHG Scrapbooks Etc, and Digital Scrapbooking Magazine. I was thrilled (honestly? shocked!) to be named a 2007 Memory Makers Master. I also recently joined the Design Team for Fiskars Crafts…what an awesome group of crafters!
