Using your June scraps.

We’ve talked about using paper strips, punched shapes, circles and of course squares as ways of using up your leftover scraps, so at first I was a bit stumped as to what to show you this month. Then, while working on my design team layouts for June, I saw a sad, lonely, tag laying on my scrappy desk and voila’ inspiration! Tags are a wonderfully versatile, simple embellishment. You can use them for journaling, to tuck behind a photo and direct the viewers eye, or even line them up for a border accent.

This first example shows how I used a yellow tag from my stash as a template to create 4 more tags from a leftover piece of cardstock and then I added hole reinforcers to each one. Lined up along the bottom of the page they create a subtle border and a “home” for the yellow accent tag.

This next example is a page from the mini album I created. I made the tags from left over pieces of the My Mind’s Eye flocked paper. I had them run off the edge of the page and used them for my journaling.

And the final example I have for you is on a new layout. To create the tags on this layout I used a large punch from McGill that punches 3 sized tags from 1 punch. I used the smaller ones to help ground the title and the larger ones I tucked behind the photo to draw your eye into the photo. I also like how the tags mimic the look of the teeth in the boy’s Tiki masks.

I urge you to revisit this old office staple, I am sure you have a few buried your stash just waiting to see the light of day again. Use them as templates on cardstock or patterned paper for a fresh twist and try them in various sizes too!

Have a great week everyone!
