And this from our October guest designer Amy Martin…

AMartin_OnTheWall

Do you stitch on your layouts?  If so, do you stitch every neatly or are you a messy stitcher.  I have an older sewing machine that really only stitches a few different styles, so I try to take advantage of that in using just a few overlapping lines.  In doing that, however, it’s also fun to make them messy by simply lifting the machine’s foot and moving the project around without cutting the thread.  Changing the type of stitching, also, mid-stream so to speak, can also create a fun, messy effect.  Check it out on the layout below using some funky stitching and some of the Cocoa Daisy October kit products…”

We’d love to see what you can do with your sewing machine!  Leave a comment here linking to how you use your sewing machine and you could be the lucky winner of a $10 Cocoa Daisy gift certificate!

I like to mix it up. Like on this one: http://rebeccakeppel.blogspot.com/2009/10/color-me-thrilled-thursday.html

where I tried to do a relatively straight border with zig zag stitches and then a messy curvy line through the paper edge with a straight stitch.

I love using my sewing machine on layouts (unfortunately it recently stopped working :-( ), but before that, I was using it every time! I like to use it to attach paper to layouts, like here, where I sewed over the pleats and also to stitch randomly to add texture to the background.

  3. I use my sewing machine in many different ways on my layouts but one that I like a lot is to “frame” my layout by cutting down my backing cardstock to slightly smaller than another piece behind it to give the illusion of a frame. Then I like to stitch the 2 pieces of cardstock together like you can see here in this layout http://helentilbury.blogspot.com/2009/10/this-is-fall-of-your-life-my-title-bar.html & I especially like zigzag stitching as it seems so much more lively than plain old straight!

I love, love, love my sewing machine! And using it on my layouts is one of my favorite techniques. Here’s one I did this month using the Oct. kit.

I try never to use either my sewing machine or my iron on my clothes, much less in any scrapbooking layouts. I like how it looks, but it’s way too much effort to get it all out and put it all away. Fake stitching rub ons, maybe…=]

I don’t have a machine but love adding texture with some hand stitching on most of my layouts..such as this one:

Love this! I busted out the sewing machine on this L.O. and on the super hero capes pictured:)

I am more of a straight stitcher. I have attempted a few zig zag stitches and I really liked the effect, like on this butterfly card:

I’d like to do more on my layouts with my machine, but right now it is not cooperating. Somehow the thread keeps getting all bunched up on the underneath side, making Halloween costume sewing a real pain! Once I figure out the problem I am going to do a lot more sewing.

  10. I use mine a lot to add a decorative edge around my LOs…

    Here is an example below.

I don’t usually use my sewing machine to stitch on my layouts. I really need to get with the program and start sewing on my layouts! Thanks for the encouragement

I already wanted one… but after seeing the awesome stitching on your page- I am definitly asking Santa for a sewing machine!

  15. Patti Rice says:

Oh, I wish I had a sewing machine! Ronda showed me some fabulous links to faking it by hand stitching. Here is my first very feeble attempt at it, but I am trying it more and more now!

Love the look, but have so little time and pulling the machine out would be another craft detour I cannot afford now. It does seem that I’m missing out on a lot of opportunity though as it looks fantastic when pages are sewn.
