It seems that spray mists are growing in popularity and once you play with them you will understand why! They are easy to use and very versatile. Once of my favorite ways to use them are with masks. You can purchase masks (you can find a number of different designs by Tim Holtz and Heidi Swapp – leave a comment if you know of any others, would love to find more!) or you can always make your own using punches, die cuts, circle templates etc. We have been talking about the different kinds of spray mists and our preferences here. I was playing with some mists and a new BIG bracket mask from Heidi Swapp the other morning and took a few pictures of my process.
I start by laying out some protective paper (idea to note: I use old desk blotter calendars to protect my surface, not only is it a great way to recycle them but you also do not have to worry about getting messy newspaper ink on your fingers or project.) and then I position my mask on my background paper.
Next I pick my color, in this case I went with a nice bright orange! I started from the edge and sprayed in, layering more paint along the edge and letting it lighten as it got to the other side of the paper.
Leaving the bracket mask in place, I layered a polka-dot mask over top of it. I also placed some scrap paper along the edge of the polka-dot mask to protect my background paper. (I only wanted the dots to show up and not the line of the mask). I then sprayed over this mask with red mist.
This is the final result – isn’t it pretty!!:
I wanted the bracket to be highlighted a little more so I outlined it with a black pen. And this is my layout:
I highly recommend giving spray mists a try, they are so fun, quick and easy to use! A word of caution though, they are very addictive!!

Love your layout. I like to mist in a packing box that opens from the top. It keeps in all the mist, no mess. Great for misting small things too, like chipboard and stuff.

I’m hooked on spray ink and mists!!! Yes, it IS addictive! I only have Tim Holtz masks (just two) but I like to make my own by cutting silhouettes out of photo’s etc.
