Hi everyone – it’s Project Art-time again! This month the kit contains a couple of awesome palette knives, a 6×6 stencil designed by Ronda for Crafter’s Workshop, two bottles of Ferro Metal Effect colour and some lovely book pages.
The Ferro is a really thick waterbased paint, or texture paste, that can be used on most surfaces. It is permanent when dry and it is actually said to be weather proof and suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It’s really fabulous for adding texture, but it is also possible to dilute the Ferro with water.
Let’s take a look at what I did with the kit this month – my journal is really filling up!
For my first page I wanted to try diluting the paint with some water and painting a thinner layer. I used both the Gold and the Green Gold on this page and I have to say that after just adding the Ferro I wasn’t at all convinced that this was a good way to use the paint.
Buuuut…. then I added some splashes of black Distress Paint (from the August Project Art kit) and I also spritzed some water on top of the paint to make the paint spread a little more… and the effect of the black paint on top of the textured background suddenly made me love this page.
Something I’m curious to try is to paint my background black and then apply the Ferro on top!
I wanted to add some hidden journaling to my page, and I took one of the journaling cards from the Twin Set add on and I also cut a piece of patterned paper, slightly taller than my journaling card. I folded the patterned paper and glued the folded part onto the back of my journaling card, so that it would create a cover for the journaling.
For my finished page I stamped some journaling (“sometimes I’m trying to save the world”) and I added circles die cut from one of the patterned papers. I used a couple of the golden arrows from the Cable knit add on to close the cover for my journaling.
The stamping did not at all turn out perfect, but I actually like the grungy look.
To start my next page I took one of the found book papers from the kit and I glued it into my journal, using the matte medium from the July Project Art kit. I only added some medium to the middle of my book page, and I didn’t glue it down perfectly and I didn’t glue it down all the way to the edges. The purpose of this was that I could then take the book page (after drying completely) and rip it off the journal page, thereby leaving only torn pieces of the book page.
I added a thin layer of gesso on top of the page and then started sketching a face.
I started painting using Distress Paint.
And then added small amounts of other acrylic paints…
…and some coloured pencils a white Sharpie.
The background is Distress Paint too.
I decided to create a simple embellishment using the Ferro and I covered a small cardboard circle completely with the Ferro in Green Gold, using one of the palette knives.
I then added some messy white thread and one of the golden arrows from the Cable knit add on on top.
I also decided to paint the girl’s hair using the Ferro in Gold. I diluted the paint and covered the entire hair with a thin layer of paint. I love the effect! It’s not easy to capture on a photo… but perhaps you can see some of it here?
The finished page… I added some stamping too and I may add some words too. I just didn’t feel them coming today.
For my third page I started out with gesso and then added a layer of blue Distress Paint. Before the paint was dry, I added Ronda’s stencil on top and used some damp tissue paper to wipe some paint away.
I then added some brown mist, using another of the shapes on the stencil, I added some stamping using one of the small stamps from the kit and on top of it all I added a thick layer of Ferro in Gold, using another stencil.
I really love how the golden Ferro looks when applied in a thick layer like this!
To finish my page I added one of the really fab tags from the Cable knit add on, and I used letter stickers from the Twin Set add on and from the Project Art kit, to write my journaling.
My next page was started with some orange mist and some black Distress Paint.
I then added some Ferro Green Gold, using the palette knife and the stencil.
I also added some blue Distress Paint and some more of the orange mist (accidentally creating the green down to the right - love it!).
I then added a piece of patterned paper, a photo from my walk the same day, and a couple of die cut leaves that I coloured with the diluted Green Gold paint. I stitched around the circular hole in the patterned paper and I used my pen around the edges. I also added a tag from the Twin Set add on and some journaling.
There are so many ways to use the Ferro and another example of what you can do is to apply a thick layer and then make marks or stamp into the Ferro (just make sure you clean your stamps right away!).
I tried writing in the Ferro and then adding black Distress Paint, wiping the excess off and only leaving the paint in the marks I made.
Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you’re having fun with your Project Art kit and I would love to see what you create using the Ferro!
