Two MKs Out of Their Element

This is another fun new post that will be showing up on the blog monthly. Two Design Team members will be paired up and challenged to create out of their element. We hope you like it.  First up are the two MKs.

What happens when you ask two Mandys to create out of their element? You get 2 page layouts. We don’t know about you, but 2 page layouts can be very intimidating. We don’t mind using multiple photos on a layout but using enough for 2 full pages on the same subject we both agreed it can be hard for us. As you’ll see below Mandy’s tend to think alike we both used some of the same products but we still kept with our very own styles while creating out of our element.

MandyKay says: I have found that one way to fill up a 2-pager is to do a “year in review” type page. I did just that for my 2012 layout. I printed a slew of my favorite moments from 2012, in varying sizes; gathered the last bits of my Double Feature kit, and my Cameo to cut the free View Master cut. I layered up my last sheets of patterned paper, cut my View Master slide in its original size, and started laying out my photos in a random order. After gluing it all down, I added a few of the Pebbles tags, some cameras from the KI borders, and a handful of the wood arrows, going in different directions. I topped it off with a KI banner sticker, backed with a bit of the red/orange trim from the Starring Role add-on, and a couple of the red pearls… for the top of my layout sundae. 😉 It came together a lot quicker than I ever thought it could and it turned out to be not-so-intimidating after all.

MandyK says: I have to admit that I redid my layout three times. The first two were a hot mess and totally not me.  I now realize the problem with the hot mess layouts were that I didn’t use my one rule while creating: keep the focus on the photos. Once I stopped over thinking this challenge and got back to the MK way, my final layout came together rather quickly. I used a mix of photo sizes from my crazy everydayness along with a large journaling block.  The journaling block is the packaging from the KI Memories borders (which I still can’t use, the glitter just doesn’t work for me no matter how far out of my element I try to go). I used some of my other leftover pieces from the February kits too: the Jillibean Alphas, KI border stickers (camera), Echo Park Label stickers, Pebbles pockets & tags, the stick pins, and that cool Ormolu flair.

Do the Mandy’s have you thinking outside your element? Take the challenge create something outside your element and be sure to share it with us!
