Product spotlight~ Fun with cloud stamps!

Hello Daisies~ I am here with lots of ideas and uses for those cute cloud stamps that came in the April main kit. For some, the clouds have dumped more snow and rain than needed this spring, but the clouds at Cocoa Daisy never bring unwanted weather with them…just fun and inspiration! So let’s get to that, here we go!

I love that each month when the kit comes there are endless possibilities of what to create out of the kit contents, and that inlcudes the stamps for sure! I have a few ideas to share of how I used them with my April kit {which is sold out}, but with the Bumbershoot add-on as well {which is still available for purchase if you want to grab one for yourself!}. I love trying to think outside of the box, and that is one way to get more uses out of your stamps. One way to use stamps obviously, is to simply stamp them as is. Using various colors or adding glitter or embossing on them adds dimension, texture and changes the details of them. So play around with your stamps each month and see how simply using different techniques changes the way they look and feel.

Here are a few examples of basic stamping with the clouds:

In addition to stamping, you can trace around the actual stamp and create cut-outs. These are fun for adding dimension to your projects and you can use them in so many different ways. Here I cut and traced some out of felt. You can’t stamp on felt or fabric very well most of the time, but you can trace and use the stamp as a template. I used my cloud template and cut and layered a couple of clouds together with pop-dots for added dimension and texture on this card. There are so many ways you can use cut-outs. You can make a mask with your stamp shapes when you use this technique too. Like I said, endless possibilities!

Another way I used the stamp was to trace it, but include some extra border to the base of it. It changes the look in yet another way on this minibook cover and on this layout where I added the cloud and number 9 {which was a 6 on the cards in Bumbershoot add-on} to imply “on cloud 9″.

Look at your stamps in new ways each month and see how you can turn them, trace them, glitter them or any other way simply have fun and be creative with them! We love seeing your ideas in the gallery and hope that you are putting your Cocoa Daisy stamps to good use each month. Happy stamping!

February Kit: Ronda’s new stencil

When Ronda showed me her new stencil designs for Crafter’s workshop I had have one in the February kit! The 6×6 pie chart stencil went perfect with the kit and I was thrilled that we were able to get it before anyone else. The design of this stencil makes it perfect for experienced or new stencil users. Ronda has put together a few examples of how she used it:

A couple of pretty tags; one in multiple colored mists and one using graphic black mist:

Here is a beautiful example of how to create art with a stencil. The stencil takes center stage on this bold art journal page:

Product Spotlight | Maya Road Baker’s Twine

Good Morning, Daisies!

Alissa here with another great product from the Daisy Boutique. The Maya Road Baker’s Twine is such a great and versatile product. First off, I love the value. Each spool has 100 yards and it’s only  $6.00. that’s just 6 cents a yard. You can’t get a better value than that, right?

maya road twine

And, it comes in so many great colors. Black is my favorite for versatility, but I love all the other colors, too. Green, orange, brown, pink, yellow, blue and red. All with cute names like Pink  Lemonade. Cute, right? Love them.

As usual, I made a few tags to show you just a few of the things you can do with the awesome twine.

03

01

On this tag I used the twine in the traditional way of tying it on the top of the tag. I replaced the cream twine that came on the tag with the black & white twine to dress it up a bit. (I also used this cute calendar stamp, the months and date stamps and Rouge Zing Embossing powder that can all be found in the shop)

04

I created a cute ampersand with the twine and the Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher. So easy and so cute! You could make all kinds of icons, numbers and letters with your twine. So cute to do monograms for cards or a layout.

07

This cute spiral flower was really easy to create with the twine. I just stapled the center down and then twirled it around into the circle, gluing along the edge as i went. When it was big enough, I cut it out and created this cute flower on this tag. I also replaced the cream twine with the Maya Road Twine.

08

One last idea to use the twine as an abstract design element on you layouts, cards and tags. Here I just twirled and randomly stapled until I liked the look.

So, run over to the shop and stock up on some twine! I’ve love to see all of your ideas in the Cocoa Daisy Gallery! Love to see your inspiration.

Have an awesome day, Daisies!

Product Spotlight – Gesso

Hello! I am here to share some tips on how to use one of my favourite products – gesso! I find that I’m reaching for the gesso very often and I really do use it a lot, for all kinds of projects.

Acrylic gesso is a ground that is used to prepare a surface before painting. It can protect the surface and it also gives “tooth” to the surface, improving the adhesion of the paint. BUT… gesso can be used in so many more ways than this…! :)

I often use gesso instead of white paint. Gesso contains less pigment than white paint and I love that I can add a thin layer of gesso, partially covering a surface but still having what’s under neath showing through.

Here are just a few examples of all the possible ways of using gesso in your projects!

Use gesso together with a stencil, to create texture. It’s not as thick as modelling paste, but it still works great with stencils.

Cover a surface with a layer of gesso and then draw or make marks in the wet gesso. The pattern becomes more visible if you paint the gesso when it’s dry. You can also rub some of the paint away, leaving more paint in the crevices, and making the pattern stand out even more.

Stamp in the wet gesso. Just make sure that you clean your stamp right away!

Use the gesso to tone down a pattern, for example the writing on a page from a book. The amount of gesso you add will decide how much of the text is visible.

Here is another example where I used gesso to tone down a patterned paper. I painted the entire patterned paper with gesso and then added mist on top. When it was dry, I cut a part of the paper out and used on a layout. The original pattern is still visible, but the paper has a whole new look.

I love the look of misting on top of a surface covered with gesso and I love adding several layers of gesso and mist, on top of each other – for example starting out with a surface that is completely covered with gesso, adding mist and then adding gesso using a stencil on top of the misted surface and then adding even more mist on top of the dry gesso.

I recently created a layout for this blog, where I wrote in the wet gesso, before adding mist.

On this layout, using the October kit, I used gesso, stencils, acrylic paint and Glimmer Glam to create a fun background.

This layout using the September kit, is another example of where I used gesso to tone down the patterned papers.

Other ideas are to use gesso on a patterned paper to create a journaling spot for your writing, or you can use some gesso around the photo, to make the photo stand out. You can also mix gesso with paint or mist, if you want it coloured instead of white.

I hope you are inspired to try some gesso out! :)

I also want to wish you all a wonderful Christmas!
