Can you put it in a pocket (letter)?

Can you put it in a pocket (letter)?

We found Katherine Maynard (kiggies5) on Instagram a few months ago and were so happy that she agreed to be our Guest Designer for the August kit collection, Hemingway. We find it so fascinating to see how she puts together pocket letters. Be sure to follow Katherine on Instagram, she’s got lots of great ideas! Have you heard about pocket letters? They are all the rage right now. Remember having pen pals when you were a kid? Well, pocket letters are the grown up version. I’m pretty sure (correct me if I’m wrong) that Janette Lane got this happy trend started and it’s such a fun concept! Do a search on Instagram for #pocketletters, you’ll see what I mean. Who doesn’t like getting a little something in the mail!?!? And don’t we all have a little extra product here and there that could make someone else smile? Take a minute and get to know our guest better and then please check out her Hemingway gallery! Hi y’all! My name is Katherine Maynard and I live in Atlanta, Georgia. I am a wife, SAHM of a teenage girl, two boys and one drooly English Bulldog. Scrapbooking has been a passion for me as long as I can remember. I still have my sticker books…the ones with the scratch and sniff kind, yeah those. I’m a traditional scrapbooker, but I also love trying out new techniques! My current obsession is making pocket letter pages. You can find me on Instagram and Pinterest as Kiggies5. I am so very happy to be here and looking forward to sharing my projects with you! Katherine’s answers to our questionnaire...
She’s Cassie Box and we love what she did with Bistro!

She’s Cassie Box and we love what she did with Bistro!

We have had the most AMAZING Guest Designers here at Cocoa Daisy. I feel so lucky I get to ask such talented individuals to play with our kits and put their own unique twist on them. It’s not the easiest task, as a Guest Designer, you might get a kit that is out of your comfort zone. I’ve never had any of our Guests tell me that, but I know so and so tends to do softer pastels when they are choosing their favorite color palette. Or so and so really likes bright and vivid. It’s kind of luck of the draw because I don’t know what the kit is going to look like until long after I’ve asked a designer. But sheer talent assures me that any guest we have will knock any kit out of the park anyway. However, sometimes the stars align perfectly with a Guest Designer and a kit collection perfectly suited to their style and color affinity. This is the case with our July Guest, Cassie Box. She just nailed the Bistro collection. Have you had a chance to check out her gallery? She was so much fun to work with, I loved getting to know her better, I know you will too!   My name is Cassie. I am a wife and a mom and a sports fanatic. I live in Kansas City, Missouri. I am a total homer. I love everything about the Midwest. I have two kids. My son is almost 11 and my daughter is 16. You see my daughter in most of my layouts because I steal her Instagram selfies. That girl...
Introducing Miriam Rodriguez

Introducing Miriam Rodriguez

We found Miriam while perusing Instagram one day. She’s got such a fun approach to Project Life, we just knew she’d be a great fit with our June Day in the Life kit. We were right! You’ll love seeing what she’s done with our collection, Let’s Go. Her gallery is full of inspiration!   And now, to get to Miriam a little better, here’s her bio and answer to our questions: I live in Cypress, Texas with my husband, we’ve been happily married for 23 years and have 4 awesome children. I’m a full time stay at home mom and currently loving it.  I started scrapping many years ago, but I wasn’t too active with it until about 4 or 5 years ago when I discovered Project Life and became addicted.  I love playing with paper and getting crafty and can’t imagine anything more therapeutic except maybe shopping for paper and craft supplies! Some of my other hobbies include cooking, photography, and DIY home projects. If I’m not being creative you can find me hanging out at the museum, the library, our local Starbucks, or at the park with my kids.   1. What is your most creative time? I feel most creative in the morning, especially on sunny days, I love to sit in my craft studio with a cup of coffee and get those creative juices flowing!    2. Share your current top 5 favorite songs/music groups with us. Guest Designer, Sarah Bargo

We’re happy to have the delightful Sarah Bargo with us this month. We actually found Sarah while perusing Pinterest one day, her fun and funky layering really caught our attention. It’s been a joy working with her and we hope you love what she’s done with the Sage & Mint collection this month! Please check out her gallery, it’s definitely full of inspiration! Here’s more about Sarah in her own words: Well hello there paper peeps! My name is Sarah Bargo and I am soooo excited to be guesting this month, thank you so much for having me!! I am a full time workin mama of 2 awesome teenage boys that keep me hoppin and make me belly laugh everyday! I’ve been artsy fartsy for as long as I can remember, but I started technically scrapbooking when I was about to have my first son. I can remember walking into this new scrapbook store, seeing the rows and rows of pretty papers and decorative edged scissors… annnnnd about went into labor right there. I swear there were angels singing! And the rest as they say, is history. 😉 I scrapbook because I want to remember, I scrapbook because of the beautiful products that should have me put onto an episode of hoarders, and I scrapbook because if something ever happens to me I don’t ever want my boys to wonder how much I love and adore them. xoxo Sarah www.sarahbargodesigns.blogspot.com Pinterest: Sarah Bargo Instagram: @sarahbargo Facebook: Sarah Bargo And her answers to our questionnaire made me smile. 1. Monika Wright loves it all!

Monika Wright loves it all!

The first time I “met” Monika Wright online, I confused her with another Monica and congratulated her on the recent birth of her new son. I was so embarrassed when she assured me that a new baby was very much the thing of the past. Almost as bad as patting someone’s baby bump, only to find out it’s not really a bump at all. But I think she forgave me because she happily agreed to be our April Guest Designer. I’m so glad! You’ll notice there isn’t a gallery for her yet. We had major delays in getting all the products for our April kit, so most of the team and our Guest didn’t get their kits yet. I’ll be sure to update you when Monika’s gallery is loaded. I will promise you that it’s going to be amazing. I’ve long loved Monika’s clean and graphic style. She is going to do beautiful things with our April kit collection, 5 O’Clock! Here’s an image I stole from her Etsy store to show you a glimpse of what she does so well. Her mini books are always something I love exploring. Until then, continue reading to get to know her better. Monika is the owner and Creative Director of I Love It All, the online boutique {and blog} she founded in 2010. From the on-trend graphic typography art prints she designs to the charming mini books she creates, which include the popular 365 Things I Am Grateful For gratitude journal, the Alphabet of Our Love and other eclectic mixed media journals, Monika believes in the power of dreaming big. And taking lots...

3 ways to use a mask, thanks to Doris Sander

3 ways to use a mask, thanks to Doris Sander

We are so very thrilled to welcome Doris Sander as our January 2015 Guest Designer. I have had the pleasure of working alongside this incredibly talented (and equally humble) designer as we’ve taught classes at the Get It Scrapped site over the years. Doris just has a way with design, and I was so happy to see her join our Cocoa Daisy message board! I invited her to be our Guest Designer soon after! She’s been so gracious to work with and has come up with three creative ways to use the Jillibean Soup mask, I hope you’ll take some time to be inspired by her Pajama Time gallery.   You can really get a sense of how fun Doris is by reading through her bio and answers to our questionnaire. I think you’ll love her as much as we do when you’re through reading. Doris grew up just six miles from the ocean on the gulf coast of sunny Florida. After college her dormant gypsy blood surfaced and she began her wanderings; she has lived in Guatemala, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Honduras. Her vagabond ways were tempered when the little guy came along. Gabriel is her world and life is wonderful with him in it. They currently call Tennessee home where she stays quite busy keeping up with Gabriel’s social life, teaching English as a Second Language, and scrapping, of course. Doris has always enjoyed photos and the stories they tell. As a child one of her favorite pastimes was digging through her mother’s collection of old photographs and wondering what the people in them would tell her if...

Beautiful designs PLUS a video from Wilna Furstenberg

It’s such a treat to have Wilna Furstenburg join us for December’s Monterey Bay kits! She’s been so amazing to work with, her layouts were gorgeous, and she even offered to make a video of her process. I got to watch it earlier this week and it’s totally worth the time, I love seeing how Wilna thinks. And I know you can sign up to take a class with her where you’ll get even more ideas from her inspiring brain. Check out her blog at the end of this post for more information on that. Wilna Furstenberg is an artist, photographer and scrapbook designer. She has a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Pretoria in South Africa and came to Canada 9 years ago. Wilna won the Scrapbooking Hall of Fame in 2006 and shortly thereafter started to work for Making Memories and other scrapbooking companies like October Afternoon and Jenni Bowlin. Wilna was a designer for Two Peas in a Bucket for two years. Her background in art led her to create to the very popular Art Class 1&2 workshops. Wilna lives with her husband of 23 years and 3 teenage girls in Saskatchewan Canada. She loves her Schnauzers, coffee, a sense of humor and Matthew McConaughey. x Come see her Monterey Bay gallery . She goes by the name soapHOUSEmama

She goes by the name soapHOUSEmama

I’ve long admired Ashli’s eclectic mixture of papers and paints and buttons and such. It looks like she just has fun while she is creating. I was thrilled when she agreed to join us for the November Weathervane kit, and knew she’d do an amazing job. I was right!  Her gallery is PACKED full of gorgeousness, she’s got layouts, a mini album, a card and a gift wrapping idea. It was so fun to see what she did with this kit, I loved her take on things. Please check out her gallery here and get to know her better below. Ashli Oliver (aka soapHOUSEmama) is a recovering graphic designer, a homeschooling mother, wife, daughter, coffee addict, knitter and gardener with an extreme passion for mixed media paper crafting and memory keeping. Ashli finds great joy in both the creative process and the final piece. Most of her craft time is found in the wee hours of the evening when all of her kiddos are in dream land. Although, Ashli never misses an opportunity to grab a snippet of time during the day to shuffle some paper around. 1. What is your most creative time? In 10-15 minute spurts throughout any given day, as long as I have a cup of coffee in hand. 2. Share your current top 5 favorite songs/music groups with us. Our September Guest Designer, Marie Johansson

Our September Guest Designer, Marie Johansson

Marie was randomly selected to be our September Guest Designer when we had a site warming party here at Cocoa Daisy a few months back. She’s been around Cocoa Daisy for a long long time, always cheering us on and supporting us. We love Marie and her great artsy style. We think you will too! My name is Marie, but in the Scrap World I´m known as Mison. I live with my partner and my two children, in a small village the North of Sweden. I work as a Intensive Care Nurse (with Cardiology as speciality). My main interest is Scrapbooking. Since my early teens I´ve been creating cards (drawing, painting etc.). In 2004 when my son was born I found a lot of beautiful colored papers and embellishments in a craft shop, bought some and that was the beginning of it all… Now I spend as much time as possible at the scrap table, and it has developed to be my biggest hobby, as well as a big part of my life. For me scrapbooking is a way of contemplation. As I have a job that can be rather stressful, and two intensive children, scrapbooking gives me time to relax and run away from the “real world” for a while. It gives me a chance to use my creative nerve, and focus on my needs for a while. My “style” is colourful and playful. I often use a lot of papers, embellishments and different mediums.I love playing with paint, inks and has almost all the time a stamped motif on my projects. I try to have the photo...
August Guest Designer: Abi Beach

August Guest Designer: Abi Beach

Funny story how Abi Beach became our Guest Designer for the August modern + vintage kit: Sharmaine had posted a thread to the DT about this very sweet designer she’d seen on Shimelle’s site. She shared a link and quite of a few of us went to see what Abi was all about. Then I saw a name pop up in the site admin to be approved to join our message boards. It was Abi Beach. I figured we’d been discovered because she’d probably seen all these hit to her blog from Cocoa Daisy, and that I’d better come clean. I’m so glad I did! Abi used to be more into paper scrapping, but went mostly digital when she started doing Project Life. I asked if she’d be willing to try out a paper kit to work her magic. She agreed. Again, I’m so glad she did! If you haven’t read her version of the story, you should. It’s here. And if you haven’t had a chance to see her beautiful work with the modern + vintage kit, please come explore her gallery. Here’s a little more about Abi, we think you’ll love her as much as we do! Abi Beach is a student studying at Durham University. She used to be a paper scrapbooker but with the demands of a student life and budget she has turned to digital memory keeping. She loves documenting the everyday, rejoicing in the ordinary and trying out all sorts of crafts. She writes about this at Creating Paper Dreams. You can also find her on Instagram as @abibeach. 1. Welcome to our July Guest Designer, Nicole Sower

Welcome to our July Guest Designer, Nicole Sower

When Christine heard that Nicole Sower said yes when asked to be our July Guest Designer, she was beyond happy. Nicole was one of her first scrappy crushes. And you can see why when you check out Nicole’s gorgeous July Viewfinder gallery. So clean and graphic, so fresh. Kind of reminds you of the new site, doesn’t it? I loved that I made another Denver connection when I asked Nicole to join us. She’s south of me, but still, she’s a Denverite. Please welcome Nicole to Cocoa Daisy this month, check out her Viewfinder gallery, leave her a little love, and get to know her better now. Hello! Hello to June’s Guest Designer, Jennie McGarvey!

I had the chance to visit with the lovely Jennie McGarvey earlier this year and was pleased when she happily agreed to be a guest designer for Cocoa Daisy. I’ve admired Jennie’s clean and graphic style for a long time, especially her fun handwriting, so I knew she’d do a great job with the kits. When I saw the kit for her month, knowing that she had three boys, I knew it would be a fabulous kit for her to show off. There’s a lot of pink in Boho Gardens, but Jennie shows you how to use it, even with the boycentric projects. I love that! Be sure to stop by Jennie’s Boho Garden gallery to see her inspiration at play.   Now, to get to know our guest designer a little better, here’s her bio and answers to our questions: I am a stay at home mom to 3 boys that keep me very busy! They are involved in all kinds of activities (mainly sports) that keep me and the whole family on the go. I’ve been scrapbooking since I was 12 after a trip to California, but in the current style since right before my eldest son was born in 2001. In January of 2011 I decided to get involved online, add my projects to galleries and submit for publication. I’ve been fortunate to have my projects published in Creating Keepsakes, Scrapbook Trends and Cards. In addition to scrapbooking I enjoy reading and photography. 1. What is your most creative time? MORNING, for sure. I’m most evergized and creative in the morning. As the day wears on,...

Meet Vivian Masket, our March Guest Designer

Vivian Masket is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. She and I met years ago at a crop at Archivers and we’ve been friends ever since. A group of us that lived the in the Denver Metro area became close and would get together often to scrap. So many great memories and friendships were formed from those crops. In the early years, Viv and I would send layouts back and forth to each other, asking what the page needed. Then life started to get busier, we became more confident in our designs, and that back and forth as well as the monthly cropping dwindled, but Vivian’s remained a dear friend. Enter Cocoa Daisy and a guest designer was needed for the March kit. Vivian happily agreed. She’s known for her clean, graphically inspired style, as well as her very clever usage of embellishments, both of which she showcased beautifully this month. She’s also very good at putting together kits for her friends, but this was the first time she ever scrapped with one, so it was fun to see her delight as she put together her entire gallery in one day using the March kit, Grey Street. She did an amazing job! Please check out her gallery. Here’s more about our guest. Vivian Masket’s roots as a paper crafter date back to her elementary school days, when she and a childhood friend ran their own stationery business. Vivian no longer uses paint pens to create sets of stationery with rainbows, unicorns, and ice cream cones; instead, she applies her love of paper, color, and design to...

Meet Piradee Talvanna, our February Guest Designer

We are so excited that Piradee is joining us this month. When we saw the kit contents of Color Swatch, we knew right then that it was the perfect month for her to be here at Cocoa Daisy. Why? Because A: Piradee has an awesome graphic style, and there’s lots of awesome graphic-ness in the kit. B: Because Piradee loves hot pink and there’s enough of that to go around, but not too much to make Color Swatch an over-the-top pink kit. C: Piradee has the CUTEST new little one who looks fabulous in pinks and has a gorgeous shock of black hair, making her pictures a perfect fit for this kit. Piradee did not disappoint us, we’re enjoying plenty of cuteness thanks to Sophia this month! Please join us as we welcome Piradee Talvanna and check out her lovely Color Swatch gallery this month. Piradee here from Bangkok, Thailand although I’m currently working and living in Singapore with my dearest hubby and little Sophia (4 months old). It was when I relocated to Singapore in mid-2008 for work that I discovered and fell in love with this hobby and have been addicted ever since.  When I’m not working or shopping, you can always find me creating away on my craft table – mixing and matching things, digging through baskets filled with yummy scrapbooking goodies or trying to figure out what else I should add to the layout/project that I’m working on.  And that is pretty much why I love this hobby so much, not only does it provide me an escape from work, but allows me to explore...
