I am a scrapper from The Philippines, a wife and a mother to two sweet girls Nicole who is five years old, and Cheska who just turned one. I rarely plan my pages – I let a photo or a patterned paper inspire me and I take it from there. I love the shabby chic and romantic style but I also enjoy working with bold patterns and striking colors. I’m an ink and paint type of person. I just have to get it a little messy to consider my page done. If I don’t have ink and paint on hand, then I just tear little bits of elements and stick it randomly for the sheer fun of it.

I am fortunate to be designing for Prima Marketing, Webster’s Pages, and Lily Bee. I am also part of scrapbook inspiration sites: Pencil Lines, The Color Room, and Creative Therapy. One of the things I consider to be among my accomplishments in the crafting industry is to have been named as one of the 2008 Memory Makers Magazine Masters and I am thankful for the blessings which have come my way as an artist and will continue to be thankful for the happiness and fulfillment that I get from this craft.

I am so happy to be a guest designer at Cocoa Daisy. I enjoyed working with this month’s kit so much! One of my favorite kits ever. Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!

Hi, it seems like I have been crafty most of my life and started scrapbooking after becoming a mom and watching my photos pile up. I wanted to incorporate my photos into my artwork – I had been doing mixed media for about 5 years and have sewn and dabbled with stained glass, painting and quilting for years, and scrapbooking was a natural progression. I immediately fell in love with scrapbooking and combining techniques from other crafts.

I have been married for 14 years to a wonderfully supportive husband, Mark and we have a 4 year old daughter, Emma, who provides so much inspiration for my artwork. We live in a small town in north Florida and enjoy going to the beach and rivers.

This hobby has certainly changed my life more than I ever imagined. The wonderful friendships and sharing community have presented many great opportunities and I’ve been able to design and share my love for being creative. I’m currently designing for Webster’s Pages and Shimmerz Paints and have been fortunate to be a frequent contributor to Somerset publications with my artwork and tutorials. I can’t wait to see what the future holds! You can follow my work on my blog: http://lucyscraftylife.blogspot.  Thanks to Cocoa Daisy for welcoming me this month as a guest designer!

If you are like Lucy and use lots of layering effects on your pages, you may want to bring in addtional embellishments to use on your page.  You might find that if you look back on previous kits, you’ll find bits and pieces that will suppliment your main kit.  This is not only a great money saving time but also helps to put to good use leftovers in your stash!

Here’s what her “Photographer” layout looks like after she’s done just that!

March Guest Designer — May Flaum

Since age seven I’ve been sticking my photos to paper and enjoying the process, and I don’t think that will ever change. My name is May Flaum, and I am a person who never expected to work in crafting, and at the same time couldn’t be happier that I am. My life is in Northern California with my husband and two quickly growing daughters. When we’re not talking about a trip to Disneyland or cooking together you might find me crafting about our life’s adventures in my craft space.

I have been an instructor for Big Picture Scrapbooking since 2007, and I’ve loved every minute of every class I’ve taught there. Currently I’m teaching a class about hybrid scrapbooking (registration closes March 3!) you can check out here- http://www.bigpicturescrapbooking.com/gohybrid.php. I also design for Scarlet Lime, write for www.scrapbookupdate.com, and I am the co-author of Paper + Pixels a book by Memory Makers and frequently update my blog www.mayflaum.wordpress.com with craft projects & adventures. If that doesn’t keep me busy enough I also do some freelance work and you can see me now and then in various scrapbook magazines and idea books too. I feel so blessed to work in this industry I love – and I was thrilled when Tricia asked me to be the March guest here at Cocoa Daisy.

Kits are a passion of mine, and I love all that Tricia packs into hers. The chipboard bits were fun to paint and ink, the ribbons are totally luscious, and the papers were each more yummy than the last. Usually I stick to layouts with kits, but I was inspired to try my hand at a small (5×7) canvas project to hang on the wall, a gift card holder from a Starbucks cup sleeve, and a card to send a friend. I cracked myself up with my “sew + lucky” card – can’t wait to send that one out.

I had so much fun with this kit – and I was definitely smiling the whole time. Thanks for checking out my projects –

February Guest Designer – Julie Fei-Fan Balzer

Hi! My name is Julie Fei-Fan Balzer and I live in New York City. I am obsessed with all things craft and art related! As far as my style, I tend to reach for the paint, ink, and sandpaper before the paper trimmer! I like art that looks handmade and invites a closer viewing.

I tend to experiment wildly with my supplies and see how I can stretch them, abuse them, and make them new again. At the same time I’m a sentimental fool and my journaling totally reflects my romantic nature. I have been published in many scrapbooking, quilting, and craft magazines in the U.S. and abroad. I am on the design teams for Prima, Kenner Road, Sultane, and the sketch challenge blog, Pencil Lines. I also regularly appear on Scrapbook Memories TV (PBS).

Mostly, I am on an ever evolving art journey! I’m delighted to be guest designing for Cocoa Daisy. I have long admired the kits and the design team is one of the most talented and artistically outrageous around!
