Feature Friday – Scraps Happens

Happy Friday to all of you!

Today I’ll share some tips on how to use those scraps for a layout. One way to bring smaller pieces of different papers together, is to add paint and colour on top of them.

I started out by picking a few scraps, and layering them below the photo I wanted to scrap.

I then removed the photo, glued the papers down using some double sided tape and added machine stitching. I then used the punchinella from the kit as a stencil, to add some gesso on top of the papers.

When the gesso was dry I got some mist out. I removed the lid and dipped a brush into the mist and painted it onto my background, and i also added splatters of mist.

I then wanted more yellow and decided to add some acrylic paint. You know there are paint dabbers available in the shop, don’t you?! :)

I then added the photo, some letter stickers, a small piece of tape and a couple of paper strips, to finish my layout.

I hope you’ll have a wonderful weekend and thank you so much for stopping by!

Feature Friday mini book

I am starting to think of some Christmas presents and wanted to make a little mini book for one of my grand daughters.  Shelby loves to tell and write stories so I decided to use a little notebook that I would leave blank pages in between my photo pages for her to write in.

I loved the accent cuts  by Crate Paper that comes in The Bean add-on.  I used that as my main paper focus and built my mini around that.  With the American Crafts Color remarks stickers, and the dear lizzy tags from The L, this mini was a breeze to put together.

I apologize for the not so clear photos.  I leave for work in the dark and get home in the dark so it’s been a little hard to take photos!

I used one of the beautiful paper flowers in the embellishment kit for the cover.

Here are some inside pages.

I really enjoyed keeping the book simple and not using my regular crazy paint mess.  I figured this would be something Shelby would want to probably take with her to school and write in and look at often.  One Christmas present down!

Friday Feature: Metalic Zing!

Hello there peeps! Happy Friday to you all!  I am so happy it is almost weekend, what a busy week it has been! I seriously need some chill time :)

I have a cool thing to show you today… have you ever used silver metalic Zing! embossing powder from American Crafts?

I thought it be a great way to add a bit of flare to my page which I created using the stunning August Santa Fe kit.

Let me show you how.

Grab some good quality embossing ink. I used Versamark clear ink pad, which you can grab from the CD store. See here.

1) Ink your stamp up & position on your heavy cardstock. The CD online store carries neutral colored cardstock for times such as this :) See here.  I like to stamp onto a thick foam square for best ink coverage. Psst: notice my 3×6″ acrylic stamping block? I love that jolly thing. It makes positioning so much easier. There are a few left in the store if you want to grab one. See here.

2.) Sprinkle stamped image liberally with Zing! embossing powder. So not be concerned that the powder looks dark. It lightens up with heating.

3.) Now grab yourself a few of the cute little wooden transport shapes from the kit & press well into the stamp pad, until well covered.

4.) Carefully heat the embossing powder. I strongly suggest you used tweezers to hold the little shape, lest you lose skin.

This is the finished result:
Silver metallic stamped circle accent.

Silver metallic wood veneer accents.

We love to travel by Kim Watson

I must be psychic  because can see this silver embossing powder being used for all sorts thingies in my near future.
Glad you stopped by & have a great weekend!

Gallery Lift

For Feature Friday’s Gallery Lift I chose Mison (Marie’s) layout here.

What really caught my eye was the black painted circle and the circle stamp she used.  The layout just really POPs with it’s messy, wonderful colors and circles.  It inspired me right away.

This is what I came up with using Marie’s layout as a starting point.  I ended up filling in most of my painted circle which happened quite by accident.

My son Conner has been really cracking me up lately with his quirky sense of humor I really wanted to capture my thoughts about that.

Thanks Marie for being such an inspiration!

Stamp on those scraps…

Hello everyone, I’m here today with some inspiration on how to use those scraps!

I used the label stamp from the July kit, to create the petals for a flower. I stamped on five different patterned papers, cut the labels out and glued them together. I arranged the patterns so that the darker and the lighter papers would be alternating. I also added some machine stitching to my flower and the cute badge in the middle, with some twine wrapped around it.

The title of the layout is “summer?” and it refers to the crazy weather we’ve been having this summer. Rain, rain, a little sun but no warmth, and then some more rain. I am really longing for some nice summer weather!

On a happier note – it’s Friday today! I wish you all a wonderful weekend!
