The Summer Journal

We’re so excited to start our summer and way before the craziness of my life started a few weeks ago I created this fun summer mini album using the AWESOME Cherry Soda kit, the add-ons (still instore!)  and some of my ‘travel-scrapbooking’ stash.

Keeping a ‘travel-scrapbooking’ stash is extremely important to me because it’s one of those specialised categories which contain things that I would use ESPECIALLY for my travel scrapbooks or mini albums. I hate going through my stash to look for these items and so I’ve made a habit of putting aside any items with a ‘travel’ theme :) . I keep rub-ons, stickers, journaling strips and patterned paper with maps/airplanes and such like, for easy access after.

I enjoyed creating this mini album..

and here are the blank pages to share with you :)

Using transparencies is so much fun!

I can’t wait to share with you the full complete album at the end of the summer (I hope I manage to complete it!).

Having the template ready to go like this just makes journaling and adding photos and memorabilia so easy!

Here’s to documenting the summer ahead!

Journaling pop with mini alphas

Hi blogreaders!

I love using the Lilybee Mini Alphas found in the Fruit Smoothie June Add-on. They’re a sweet size and the font is perfect!

Using the mini alphas help pop up the journaling and draws the attention to the journaling on the page. I’ve recently played with them in two ways.

In this layout:

The alpha stickers make the phrase ‘You are So Cute’ but the words are spread out in the journaling section and are actually a part of the sentences where they appear.

To make it pop a little further, I’ve outlined these letters with black ink.

So the stickers have a double function in the page, simple yet effective journaling, adding another dimension to the text.

I’ve also used these alpha stickers to emphasize my titles. In the layout, using more bits and pieces from Cherry Soda I’ve used the alphas to create this effect.

I randomly placed the phrases in the journaling area before I started journaling. The words that pop up flow from the ‘I love you’ title and you can read the title both ways (including or excluding the words in red).

I then wrote the journaling in around the phrases, not worried about whether or not they fit into the text.
For a journal-heavy scrapbooker like me, the mostly handwritten text is a very important part of every layout for me. Being able to create a design element out of alpha stickers is fun and adds that bit of interest to the layout.

Hope you enjoy this mini tip! How else have you used these mini alphas?

Don’t forget to share in our gallery!

:)

CD in Scrapbook Trends

I love submitting and getting published and I squeal every time my layout get picked!

This Cocoa Daisy layout was in January 2011′s Scrapbook Trends Magazine.

For those of you who are still publishing newbies, I’ve found these tips from Creating Keepsakes really helpful when I first started my submitting work. And I got picked immediately after I submitted using these tips!

And as an added bonus to this layout picked by Scrapbook Trends – my favorite kit club got a wee mention :D :D !

Yay!

April Goodbye..

I know we’re into May and the fabulous May Kit ‘Vintage Ink’ and its glorious add-ons but I must say I’m a little sad to say goodbye to last month’s Central Park!

I thought I’d share a last layout using a couple of my favorite photos from the start of this spring using the April Kit as a last hurrah!

I did this double page layout using two 8.5×11 pieces and some fun odds and ends from April..

What did you create with your April Kit? Care to share..?

Beautiful Bits and Pieces

Words, words, words.. for many of us, writing and journaling on our layout can be a challenge, which is why Daisy Diva Lisa Saunders set the ‘Once Upon A Time’ Challenge for us to play along to. There’s still time to play along with the challenge (you have until March 1oth!)…so go ahead, tell us your stories!

In my layout below, I’ve used words in a slightly different way. Instead of telling a story, I’ve written a letter to my daughter, Lara, who is fast growing into a beautiful seven year old.

I think one of the beauties of scrapbooking is the ability for us to communicate our words and our pictures together, and give even more meaning to the photos that we’ve taken. I hope that Lara and I will look back on this page together in the years to come, and share our memories of this time.

Until then though, I quite fancy the pretty pages, and elements I’ve used on this fun page, don’t you? :)

Why not write a letter to your loved one.. to cherish for years to come.. or get them to write a letter to you.. whatever you do, have fun with your words and photos today :) !

xoxo,
